DTT Opinions.

Im the the neighborhood for built tranny on a somewhat tight budget. I was looking at all the major builders and came across DTT and what they offer looks pretty decent. This rebuild i'll be tackling on my own to help keep the cost down.

Looks like DTT offers a master rebuild kit, a shift kit, 3disk TC for a good price. With all that and a new billet input shaft I think i'd have a pretty strong tranny to hold 450 or so horse.

Can anyone tell me more about a DTT trans, what was your likes/dislikes? Also to anyone who has rebuild a trans(47re), where can a guy get a good manual?

Thanks.

I cannot speak for the install part.. I had done a TransGo shift kit on my truck and it seemed to firm up the shifts.. AT about 98k I had a local DTT shop (Massdiesel) install a DTT with all billet and now have 163k on truck. Tranny has not given me any trouble at all. Love how it drives. I went with the Super Single they offered after talking with MassDiesel. Unless you are drag racing or tractor pulling the triple should not be needed. Save the $$ and use it somewhere else.

I have had a DTT tranny now for about three years or so now. Not sure how many miles on it without looking up my records but anyway have had no trouble with it at all. Its just the standard build up . Had it built out west at the main shop and shipped here. I pull a three horse gooseneck trl. 90% of the time. Only change tranny fluid and drive it......

Thats another thing I was debating, to go with a single or a triple TC. I don't really have any intentions on going over 500horse, the most I may haul around is 6-7k lbs every now and then.

Is a Single that much smoother? I 'm not so much into hooking to a sled or hauling the mail down a track, just want a super reliable truck.

JP-4.5 & funcruise. Did either of you notice a increase in mileage?

I have a DTT with the single and love it. I tow with mine almost daily and I am right at 500 HP. For me it's the best auto build I have had so far.

Did you go with their whole new VB or just running their shift kit?

I see.

I snapped my shaft going about 25mph, wasn't even jumping on it. Before that happened my TC and VB were starting to act up pretty bad. The TC would always slip, the tranny temps started creeping up to high. I just really can't wait to get this thing built to see how the truck is supposed to drive.

You will love it... mine shifts firmly but not too hard, and stuck in traffic in the summer heat towing my max temp ever was 180. Make sure to get a double deep pan though-

I would hit 200*+ sitting in traffic on a hot day, I knew it was a matter of time before something let go. Got a deep pan already.

Next step is to remove trans and get going on it. Although I do miss driving around the CTD. It's now parked in my shop not getting any salt/sand on it for the winter.

I just had that master kit put in mine w/ triple conv but no billet shaft. It is awesome, shifts firm but not too hard and shift is quick, I noticed shift points are a little different than before for the better. You wont be dissipointed. The parts are heavy duty and there is some fine touches that are done in the kit that my tranny shop did not realize at first but after a call to DTT they realized what to do and the why they did it that way to improve the standard procedure.
