DRW to SRW

I am also thinking of going from DRW to SRW, what parts are different on this swap? Rear end housing? Front hubs? What about spring location, same right? Bed?

If you guys can help me out on that that would be great as well.

On the front just remove the factory spacers from the hubs and bold up SRW wheels. On the rear the springs are the same and in the same location so swaping out a SRW axle and bed is direct bolt on.

there was a , post not too long ago about this the guy that did it was very thorough with pics and everything, basically remove the spacers either get a new bed or reomove dually fender and bondo , then put on the wheels that you want, he said that the rear axle is a little wider than the front but in the pics you could barely notice, if its that big of an issue you can put a small wheel spacer to even them out, as soon as i move closer to the water im gonna do mine

I just recently did mine and I like my truck even more now. On the front axle I removed the extensions and bolted up new wheels. I just pulled the fenders off the bed for now. The only problem I ran into was that my center caps were to short for the rear axle. When I put the wheels on and tighten the lugs it popped the center cap out about 3/16", because the caps are tapered. I fixed this by putting the nuts that hold the front axle extensions on onto the studs of the rear axle. I tightened them up then put the wheels back on and tightened the lugs up. No more problems with the center cap fitting. The nuts became a quick wheel spacer but now the difference in width is more noticeable to me. I will experiment with some washers to get to the minimun needed. But no one who has asked me about the truck has noticed the difference, a couple guys thought I bought a new truck. I went with Ultra Predators with 35 12.5 18 Toyo MTs and I think the truck rides alot better.

So, you are just saying that you popped teh rear fenders off and bolted on SRW wheels? I understand about the center cap and all, but hard part wise, that was all you did? Hmmmm, ok. I was under teh impression that the DRW was alot wider than the SRW. You are saying it is not?

You also have to take into consideration that the dual wheel is hub piloted and the single wheel is stud piloted. The dual wheel hub is also hub piloted. If the hub was stud piloted, it would be beveled around the stud, this allows the 60 degree cone nut to set the weight of the vehicle on the hub and remain in place. If you put single wheels in replacement of dual wheels, you are asking for trouble. Of course someone has always done it and never had a problem. We see the opposite on a weekly basis.

So, you are saying that I need to swap hubs?

Yes you would have to change out your hubs.

We sell conversion kits to upgrade to dual wheels, but we get calls all the time from guys who have duallies and want to go to single wheels. I guess the grass is greener on the other side.

Why not just take the inner tires off and maintain the wider stance and fenders?

Not to hijack, but does the same thing about duals being hub piloted and singles being lug piloted apply to 2nd gens?

This applies to all dual and single wheel trucks Dodge, Ford, Chevy and all year models. Some older Dodge and Ford dual trucks were stud pilot, but they were not interchangeable with single wheels.
