Just went to the dealership and my truck is now in D1 status. I ordered it Mar 13 and have been bugging the schedular from my plant (I work at Windsor assembly plant in Windsor home of the Minivan) on a daily basis. Hope she can move things along as I am looking forward to the truck. I have found out there are guite a few 555 in Southern Ontario for those Canadian members. I do plan on using the truck as a tow vehicle on weekends and daily driver. As I mentioned I want a indepth test drive first. Thank you once again for all of your input. And Good luck to all future owners regardless of configuration. We must inform our dealers of any problems so corrective measures can take place. A little naive I know but I do believe in Daimlerchrysler and the products they build.

I believe the 600 means:
- burning/wasting 600 gallons a year more than other 24 v's
- 600 more static shock vibrations per hour than other 24v's
- 600 more parts will wear out due to vibration
- 600 more excuses re warranty "there is nothing wrong"
- 600,000 miles less before rebuild due to 3rd event injection washing the internals
- 600 more owners torqued/complaints per day than other 24v's
- 600 more phony reasons why this is good for the environment and meets emmissions. Give me a break, this is like the gasers in 1974, every time you started 1 up it used a half a tank of gas.

My 94 12 valve would get 26 to 28 regular on the higway and was a 5 speed puller. My 01 HO 6 speed does have a little more power, but not much more than my 94 had and mileage at best is 18 to 19.
Now along comes the 24V 600 triple squirter and down again significantly for a few more HP and ft/lbs and another significant drop. Class 8 will get the same mpg with no load.

This all ticks me off on how things have degraded from the 12Valve performance and they are all patting themselves on the back and we are buying it!!!.

That being said I really wanted one, probably go and change my mind in a month and get one. Need to get wifey to give me smack upside the head.

I was in the same boat, trying to purchase a truck in late February. I had a 600 on order for five weeks without a build date. I was reading lots of posts, getting impatient with the order, and got cold feet about the 600. I fould a 555 that met my needs and told the dealer I wanted to cancel the order and pick up the 555 across the state. He said he would make a dealer exchange, pick up the truck for me, and give me the same deal. It worked out great. I have a brand new 555, and getting 17-19 mpg.

dwhite is Right!

I have talked at length with dealers all over Az. and they confirm that the extra/third injection of diesel fuel into the exhaust to help the burn in the cat. converter is REAL! They are reluctant to tell you until you tell them you know that more fuel is less mpg! Then they again wholeheartedly! So i am gonna dump my ordered 2004.5 for a 2004. He is looking as i type, so hopefully i can get everything i want on it, which is everything but leather.

If i am out of bounds or got a screw loose, let me know! The cat has stolen Christmas in diesels as far as i am concerned.

Im almost ready to take a 4k hit and trade in the 04.5 for a 04/ho I have the 4:10s and my fuel economy is worse than my 1984 454 1 ton chevy was.316 miles to 28 gallons of fuel this last tank.My 03 with the same exact equipment would go 440 on a tank of fuel and i drive hard.according to dodge there is nothing the matter with my new truck .And ive owned 4 diesel trucks now none of them got 4 to 5 miles better economy after 20k .the 600s flat out drink fuel the 6speeds that get in the teens would be getting in the low 20s in the standard ho motor. if i had known the economy would have been this bad i would have kept the lemon 03 .

I am truly to scared after all the threads i have read, to take delivery of my ordered 2004.5 diesel Ram which i have been on the edge of my seat waiting for. Its been three months and i wonder what's the deal. Well, i dont care now! Its given me time to read and thoroughly investigate all my options. thankfully i have read all your desires and disappointments along with expert advice from many techies and those of you who do modifications routinely on their rigs via this site. It has saved me another disappointment with Dodge. My '01 4x4 quad sport 5.9 gasser was horrible for mileage, i even drive it like granpa and still get 10-12 mpg (tranny problems too) but i love dodge trucks. They are the best. buyer beware!!!, the 600 is a great truck but at a cost. If you can handle it - then go for it. The 555 is for me!

Makes me glad I purchased a "last on the lot" 2003

Here's my milage stats so far.......last 2 fillups. I have only had the truck sine March 31st /04. Hand calculated.

Average MPG

19.02
16.32

The last one was city driving.

I filled up this past Sunday ( April 11 ) .

This after a week of driving ( 90 % highway ) to work.

I checked the computer this morning ....

Its showing 142 miles till empty. Now I do 52 Miles one way to work....

52 x 2 x 5 = 520 Miles Monday - Friday

And like I said above the computer still is showing 142.91 Miles till empty.

I think this is great for a 7000 pound truck with about 1677 Miles on her.....and it can only get better!!!

I'll post the true figures (hand calculation) after my fillup this weekend.

Cheers
Rob.
