I have to admit this thread is pretty d*mn funny. It's sort of like picking a scab-you know it's going to bleed, but sometimes you just HAVE to.

I don't know if Dodge is that behind the times-My wife's 06 Hemi Durango will crank until the motor starts, even when you let the key go before the engine cranks over. I never knew a vehicle would even do that until I backed it out from the garage a few weeks ago and it just stalled (? hemi gremlins?). I turned the key and it sounded like it had started again (the new ones are really quiet) but it hadn't-and the starter kept cranking it until the motor turned over.

Then I thought to myself-that's pretty cool, but when does it quit? Remember the old rule that you never run the starter for more than 30 seconds at a time? Maybe I should try stalling it again just to see exactly how long the starter will crank . . . that way when I ruin the wife's starter I'll start a thread here and tell you how long a Mopar hemi starter will crank for before it smokes out . . .

I've tested MANY different models of rental vehicles to see if this feature was enabled. Most Chev products wont let the starter engage, although if you hold a gmc envoy to the floor in neutral, it will only rev to 4500 rpm. Ford expeditions, have plastic bumpers that break if you go through snow drifts with them, A nissan titan has a VERY abrupt rev limiter (found that out doing donuts on the beach at Padre Island but they do WONDERFUL smoke shows). Chev half tons will shift by themselves if you leave it in low and hold it to the floor.

Ford explorers with the v8 will do almost 50 mph on the highway in low range (LONG story on that one).

Ford windstar minivans are quite nose heavy when jumping them...

For the record, I don't buy "program cars"....

I think all my girls have tried to start their vehicles with the engine running and I don't think any of them have the starter blocked. We have 2 Hondas, 1 Ford, and 1 Mercury.

I did learn in my younger days that when trying to speed shift a 1965 Dodge, slant 6, 3 speed on the column, if you hit reverse instead of 2nd gear the transmission makes a loud noise and all forward progress ceases.

I also learned that after you jump the raised median on a city street in a 1984 Dodge Caravan the side door never closes quite right.

Hmmmm funny yes but the funniest part for me is my starter will not engage while running. Not sure if is because of my remote start or what but have watched my gf get in while it was running and turn the key and nothing! So of course I had to try it my self and still nothing.
