bummer dude!,,try getting ur fuel at Flying J,,i do when ever i can and it seems to delever alittle better milage,,also it helps not to take off to fast from a stop,,cause thats where ur gonna burn most of ur fuel, ur know,,getting that heavy beast movin, also,,another tip would be to let up on the go peddle alittle when u hit 50 miles per hour, that will lock up ur torqe converter,,,,,hope ur milege gets better

I haven't had as many road trips this summer as I expected due to health reasons but hopefully I'll be back to the fun stuff this fall.

I'm at about 6100 miles now.

i have been on this forum for quite a while now and have read thread after thread with people stating they get 19-23 MPG. i have never met anyone on the street who would look me in the eye and say it.
I have a friend who just bought a brand new one who builds pole barns. he has it on the road everyday doing light work and told me yesterday he is getting 10 mpg if he babys it.
i have got 16 with mine at 55 mph going downhill with the wind blowing in the same direction i was heading.
oh well, wouldn't trade it for a dunceamax or a power joke.

mileage

I"d look u in the eye and swear on my mother,,,,i get 19-201/2 ,,that"s highway,,not average,,if it"s on cruise control and I"m not fighting a stiff head wind,,but i don"t need a tail wind either,,thats with 2 people(including myself) in the truck and a open bed,,I"m hope it will do better when i get a cap on it.the speed i travel is 69 mph,,mileage drops going faster than that, and if more people are in the truck,,the mile will drop going up a hill,,but i get it back going down the other side, this mileage is with truck stop fuel, i have noticed a slight increase in mileage since i have been using it,,unless the increase is from the engine breaking in,,4600 miles on it,,,,,,,,,,,,,why would i lie?,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,anyways,,,i hope ur mileage gets better,,heard it can happen.

ed, thats really unbelievable mpg's! Do you have a 6 speed tranny or auto? I drive an auto 04.5 373 shortbox and the best i have ever seen is 15.5. Many others say the same adn guys at the dealership who sell the trucks as well as own them say that 14-15 is best they get. I dont baby it but then again i buy my own fuel for this truck. Its a runnin machine and i love it. Either you are a lucky new 04.5 owner or you have a secret under the hood that lots of us missed out on.
Several times i have gone into fast mode driving and it wont go below 14.4 mpg. On the highway traveling 80mph, normal in Az., and it drops to 12-13. Guess i cant catch a break with fuel economy, my 01 gasser sucked it lit was free fuel (11-12mpg). Send me the TSB or something DC, gezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

My neighbor says his improved little by little and seemed to peak at around 100k!!! I was like RIGHT.But the last trip from Ga.to N.J. and back with a three horse gooseneck trailer with three horses in it he averaged 16.1 mpg! He gets 20/21 empty but never goes over 70,trys to stay at 68 mph or so.His is a 4x4 with 3.73 gears 6 speed. We did his HOURS divided into MILES and it was around 51 mph average. He has 135k on it now.Says NO mileage change since around 100k but remembers trips were his average was 14 plus and then 15 plus etc.

Herb,
I can look you in the eye and say I got 22mpg out of my truck. That's running around 65-68mph for 300 miles. Running little over 70mph the average is around 21mpg. Pulling around 6k lbs with a trailer running about 70mph the average is 15mpg.

Thesse variations are still sticking in my craw! What the hell is the deal? Mine is literallly getting worse-w-each fill up. I could count on 18.5 or so for about the first 11k. That is with the mods. Now-w-no additional changes it is dropping to where 16 is what I'm looking at. I need to stop by the dealer and speak-w-my friend to see what he thinks.

Well, for the first time I am now @ 16.8 MPG's. Miles driven 453 filled up to the neck 26.88 gallons. This is town and freeway empty. That is the best I ever gotten running around to and from work, home depot, etc.., I also use standyne with every fillup (if that makes any difference). 4100 miles(miles getting up there, dang time to trade soon)

But heh, tons better than my 02 ram gasser.

Ohh, you should see some of the "HEMI" posts of drivers getting 18,19,22..Must be all one way down hill driving

I am now getting 18 MPG consistently driving 70. Yesterday I drove 548 miles and used 30.5 gallons. That's 17.97 MPG. The last tank of mixed driving was 16 MPG. My mileage has improved by about 2.5 MPG. I now have just over 13000 miles on the truck.

I've broke in a "99" and a "03" found it true with both..They do get better with age. I consistantly will see 20+mpg @ 65 in highway mountain driving empty. 13mpg up and over the pass 15mpg back down pulling a 3horse gooseneck (8500# +/-). Both rigs did about the same. I did find driving habits do affect these numbers throw in city driving and it will pull the average down to the 15mpg area easy. never saw any big numbers with the filter changes.

Mine has weeks where it gets terrible mileage. I drive the same roads pull the same 8' trailer and I get 11-12 or so 1 week and 14 to 15 most weeks. This might not seem like something to complain about but the bad week it still gets the 11 running empty. The fuel always comes from the same station. Just seems odd the mileage on mine is all over the place. It is getting better empty I can see 20mpg now that is has 13.5k on it.
