Does a glacier or waldboro pump remove air?

I want to get added filtration to my diesel truck. i know fass and airdog systems are superior but what about a home made kit for 1/3 the cost? if you were to buy a dual filter pad (that wold host a 2 micron filter and seperator) couldnt you just hook it up after a waldboro, raptor or glacier pump? would that remove air like the fass or airdog?

i looked at the diagrams but i still cant figure out how those systems remove air? all they do is dump excess fuel back to the tank.

IMHO no system removes any air. If fluid has entrained air in it and you put the fluid under pressure the air bubble will disappear, even with as little as 5 psi. I have a GDP system and am happy with the set up. Was going to piece one together but the shipping added up and was a little up under the cost of the GDP.

so what u r saying is that it doesnt pay to buy parts seperately because itll add up to the price of a airdog/fass? I like the compactness of the fass and airdog. i know you can get fleetguard filters for the fass but what about the airdog?

Yup unless you can find all the parts locally, Shipping adds up from 3 or 4 different places.

If you want to run a 2 Micron filter like the GDP filter system. You can use two of these filter heads:
http://store.airflo.com/p174769.html

Run a Fleetguard FF5320 2 Micron Fuel Filter and Fleetguard FS1212 Fuel/Water Separator.

Cross Reference

2 Micron spin-on Fuel Filter:
Donaldson P551313
Luberfiner LFF3347
Baldwin BF7633
Fleetguard FF5320
Fram P8334
Fuel/Water Separator:
Donaldson P558000
Luberfiner LFF8020
Baldwin BF1212
Fleetguard FS1212
Fram PCS5062

You can fab up a system using a Walbro, a bypass regulator, CAT filters/heads for less than a FASS and it'll be better, imo.
I did it. Others have as well.

Might not say that if you saw the FASS demonstration display with clear plastic fuel lines on it. It's inpressive.

That's probably why FASS puts the air/water separator before the pump.... on the suction side.

Not according to their web site.

If you're getting air on the suction side of the lift pump you are either out of fuel, have a hole or crack in the suction line, or are sloshing the low fuel level enough to pick up air with the fuel.

The Glacier system bypasses a large percentage of the fuel right back to the tank and, in the process, takes any air in the system with it. So, if you run out of fuel or change the filter, the air gets sent to the tank with the excesss fuel and separates there.

exactly raspy exactly. reason i cant make sense of why fass and airdog systems cost $500-1200 dollars US? is there magic marbles in them? im going to buy 2 filter pads from princess auto, lines and a pump for about $183.00
