Dodge is uping the Tow capacity for '06
Well, according to DC Engineers they are currently using the dodge rams in a rodeo circuit to test towing capacities. They are towing 20k-27k around under supervision of engineers and so far have had ZERO problems. 0% breakage on anything. Hard to believe...

I have towed over that too. No breakage at the time, however, It is hard to believe that the warranty will stay the same and that there will be no adverse side effects. It is defininately going to wear parts out faster.

well, as far as a I know, DC is changing the warranty on these things for '06 or '07 and doing away with the 7/70 mile drivetrain warranty and going to a 3 yr 36mile warranty on power train. So now they don't have to warranty them as long, so it seems logical they would up the tow ratings. As long as they don't break in 3yr/36K miles, DC is fine. Its our problem after that.

My dealer told me Im lucky Im getting an 05, he said too that Dodge is changing the warranty down to 3/36. If the 06's have anywhere near the probs of the previous models, theres gonna be alot of people going elswhere..

Yea I work for DaimlerChyrsler and we have that 7/70 plastered around thoe whole plant and not a word of them backing off it. It really doesnt cost them a whole lot for that since it is powertrain only after 36,000 miles and you have to pay a deductable on the repair.
Could be a sales pitch to get you to buy a 2005 model.
But you never know what there intentions are, but I wouldnt be changing to match Ford and GM, I would be looking at the foreign warranties, and trying to keep mine up there.

I work for a Dodge dealership here in Los Angeles.
Yes, the 7/70 is gone for 2006.
The reasoning from DC is that most buyers didn't even know about the 7/70, and that most people only keep their vehicles 2.5 years anyways.
Soooooooo, they have cut the 7/70 supposedly because they will up the rebates offered in 2006, being as how they are bigger selling point than the warranty.
Just sold a 2006 Magnum R/T......no 7/70 on the window sticker.

LOL Up the rebates on a New body? That makes since, guess with the lack of success the Dakotas have had with there new bodies and with the same design in the 2006 Rams guess they are preparing for the worst.

That means that the warrenty for my 2004, which runs out in 2011, will last 2 years longer than a new 2006.
LOL!
At least I know now that I'll have my truck another 6 years!

would be nice to see a commercial with one of our trucks towing 3 of the "19,500lb towing capacity" powerstrokes on a flatbed.
too bad there's no way to grandfather in the new ratings! i know the truck will do it, but good lucking trying to convince the DOT.
