Well considering the straight six engine predominately have the upper hand in low end torque, I would say the straight 6 will always lug better since its max power rpm is lower than a v-8 diesel. I think when most truckers on the road encounter a big hill the first thing they are gonna contemplate is what gear they will downshift to to keep the powerband in effect. With our trucks you downshift as necessary when towing to keep the rpms above 2000rpm, that is optimal for engine health.

I have to disagree with all of you. The Fords do lug better than our Dodges. This is a proven FACT. The data to back up my claim comes from tow truck companies across the nation, who have lugged Ford Power Strokes to repair shops in all 50 states.

Oh, and I agree with your comment about Arizona in your location. My wife was in Tucson last month visiting my brother and we got a letter in the mail from the Tucson police dept. a couple of weeks ago with a picture of her in the truck in my signature with a fine for like 70mph in a 45. $215 or something like that. I thought about taking a picture of $215 cash and sending it to them like I read about somebody doing. I wonder what they would think of that.

My old 6.0L had absolutely NOTHING below 1500 or so. It would barley gain speed empty below that, let alone with a trailer. You had to get on top of the turbo to have any power, once you were up there it went along alright. The 7.3s were better, but still not that grate. The 6.7 is by far more powerful off idle and at low speed than either of those engines. I've never towed anything heavy with the 5.9 but I'm pretty sure it is the same way as the 6.7.

That's funny right there!
