Diveshaft joints

311k on the clock, truck starts vibrating AGAIN. Take it in to Dodge. Joint cups are actually pulling out of the drive shaft!! This was the 2nd set of joints in this driveshaft and this was the 2nd shaft. 1st driveshaft replaced when truck was new due to vibration issues. After seeing the joint cups about 1/4 inch out of the groove on the shaft, tech suggested replacing the shaft. I agreed and of course had to wait the additional day to get the new shaft in. $540. bucks later we're back on the road vibration free, until ??

No retaining clips? Sounds like the last fix was not complete

Actually, the cups were pulling out on the inside!! tech said shaft might be worn where the cups are pressed in.
So, new driveshaft, more money and away we go.

There are a couple shops around here that do driveshafts. With million dollar balancing machines. I have had many done for race cars and front 4x4's and such. They could replace the end on your shaft and re-balance for a lot less. The company I go to the most is called M & M Fabrication on County Road 6 in Elkhart Indiana. Very knowledgeable guys. Dont mess around with a dealer on something like that unless it is covered with warr. Take it to someone who knows. You could send your shaft to them, they usually have it all fixed up in a day or 2.

Well since me and you are in the same boat it seems!! My joke when I am stuck on the side of the road crying on the CB for help and calling the wife mad because I have to reschedule my pick up or drop off is.... I can't wait till they come out with a 1 ton HONDA!!!!

Well my drive shaft problem the second time around was the center bearing/ carrier bearing was letting it wobble all over the place which in return chewed up the ujoint right behind it!!! Than happen just outside of syracuse NY!! stock at the Ny thruway travel plaze for 3 days waiting on that part!!!

My center u joint seized up this past Friday. Rear end was bouncing like a basketball.
Read enough about dealer installed u joints. Opted to have them done elsewhere with greasable joints instead of the OE non greasers. And yes, I did all 3 instead of just the bad center one. Center joint was dry as a bone inside 3 of the 4 cups with one cup welded to the joint. The other 2 joints were pretty dry also, particularly the rear joint.
Used Precision Joint #351 from Napa. Seemed like a pretty stout joint compared to the OE one's. Time will tell.
