The brakes don't unlock the converter on the cummins. It is computer controlled.

len70,

That's a good idea. I sometimes forget mine is on till it starts to lug.

prodart,

He's talking about the mystery switch.

I did it on mine, used 2 relays. When i push the button the first relay locks the 2nd in place, and hitting the brake wich is a ground, grounds the relay to break the connection. controling the ground not the positive is the trick.

Older vehicles if you touched the brake pedal and broke the circuit(brake lights on) the torque convertor would unlock.Oh mid 80s to late 90s I think.Use too check auto's trucks for torque convertor shudder lets say at 50 mph and touch brake pedal, rpms would jump 150/200 as convertor unlocked while still maintaing right foot on fuel.Take left foot off brake and feel/watch convertor lock etc.

If someone wants I can find my notes when I made mine, I had a diagram some place that shows just what to connect where. I can post it if there is interest and if I can find it, it works flawless. I can even hook a bypass switch up that would allow it to stay locked up even if u hit the breaks. I want to do this some day when I get a exhaust break.

it will be a day or 2 I have to find the diagram and notes. I had to make a change when i did the first one as it was controled by the pos, after some testing I realized I had to control the ground. I think the stuff is in the garage so I will look when I can.
