Difficult getting out of park

I have an 2004.5 with a problem getting the truck out of park.

I know there is some kind of brake switch that must communicate to the trans solenoid pin lock

Is my problem the brake switch or trans solenoid. Is there a way of eliminating the "safety" by having to push on the brake?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Mine has difficulty getting out of park, most of the time it is when I am on a very slight slope and I do a trick now that helps.

When I stop I set the parking brake, set the truck in neutral and release the brake so the truck settles on the parking brake. I then put the truck in park. Very little stress to get the truck out of park when I need to get in and go.

I had been having problems with mine for a while up to a month ago. I tried adjusting the brake safety assembly, but that didn't help. Searching on here brought up a couple of threads about something wearing in/around the valve body so I finally took it to an industrial tranny shop in Spokane (Trans-Pro) that ran a booth at our RV show.

He was very helpful and was aware of that issue with these trucks. So he pulled the valve body and replaced the "rooster tail" and that completely took care of the problem, comes right out of park now. I'm a happy camper, especially since he said the tranny still looked very good inside at 100k, so I should be good to go for a while.

There was a TSB out for this problem a couple years ago. I had to take my 03 the the dealer and they fixed it.

If you look down under the truck you will see the bracket that holds the shifter cable in place. A couple light taps with a hammer may also fix your problems. I cannot remember which way you should tap it though. Just make sure you don't hit it too hard. All it takes is a light tap....

So, I'm having the same problem with my 05. What's the fix? Where do I start? My problems feels like it's in the shifter on the steering column. Are there any TSB's on the 05?

I had this problem in January on my '05. At first I suspected that it was the shifter cable and/or the solenoid switch. The dealer said the same thing when I took it in for repairs. It ended up being an issue with the valve body. The transmission was binding on the park detent.

This problem happened for me at 55k. So it was covered under warranty with a $100 deductible.
