different sound

hello,

i am 2100 miles into a 2400 mile trip and my truck seems to idle rough now and sounds a bit different. i noticed while in utah yesterday morning while the temp was 57 white steam came out of the exhaust which i assume was the dampness and cold. have not seen it in warmer las vegas.

the sound is almost like a soft knock. but the idle is much rougher. i have read on this board that the CTD will sound different with more miles on it and i am now at 28,500.

i pull a 5,000 lbs airstream so not a heavy load but I-70 over the rockies was a tough pull.

any ideas or advice?

thanks,
david out of socal

So why does the truck sound different when getting higher miles on it, I have 50,000 on my 2003 it is starting to sound different already, cant figure this one out.

do you use any form of fuel treatment? 5k is not a load for that truck. light loads do not generate enough heat to completely burn off the deposits on the injectors which will slowly plug the holes in the nozzle, changing the flame pattern, which will cause it to burn differently and make a different noise. add some stanadyne, power service, seafoam, etc, hook 10k lbs to it, and clean her out.

hello,

i do use PS silver with each fill up. got to the dealer and they said my number 1 injector had problems. also told me i need to get on the go peddle harder and more often and this sounds good to me. warranty is taking care of the injector issues next tuesday. when i find out exactly what the issue with the injector is i will do another post. probably as you said not generating enough heat. how do those of you that never pull handle this heat issue, stomp on the go peddle often and clean it out?

thanks,
david
