differences in 2500 sport/slt to 2500 power wagon
Besides the option of the cummins in the sport/slt(which i want). How much more capable is the power wagon off road. I mean are the suspensions even remotely similar? WOuld the 2500 sport/slt w/cummins still do fairly well offroad w/ stock tires or 285's? sorry i ask stupid questions like this but i'm really pretty stupid about these things. I usually just get in and go in my boss's work trucks on the farm. But i'm buying this one and want to make sure i'm getting something i'll be happy with for the next 10-15 years.

For pure off road, the power wagon is much more capable because of the lockers. The CTD will do plenty well off road, and will net you better milage - especially towing. Order the CTD with the anti-spin and you'll go just about anywhere you want to go within reason. The CTD is going to be a lot more versatile, but the power wagon is going to perform better off road.

As a matter of fact the DODGE website dosent even have it listed as a option on the Power Wagon. Cummings Engine is to heavy for the disconnecting swaybars + the Edit thing is already way to expensive. Oh and the HEMI = 12mpg Highway--------8 city----really buy the SLT

Go with the Cummins, a Hemi with 4.56's isn't gonna do well on fuel! Plus the paint on the PW's is rubbing off behind the flares! And I also have not seen a PW with a Cummins available.

One of the reasons you can't get the power wagon with a Cummins is because of the built in winch on the power wagon.. There is no room for it with the intercooler and large radiator.

My Dodge truck is no where as capable, off road, as my Chevy. Not even close.
Give me a locker for my Dodge..............please!

will AAM make the PW axles be available to put under our trucks?
wonder why the PW are 1500, but have the 2500 axles?
i had a rubicon for a while....almost unstoppable with all 4 tires chugging.
a locker in the front of a CTD would be all you would need, due to the weight on it, think that would suffice.

You can't get CTD in PW for the reasons mentioned above (plus the locking front axle cant handle the front GWR nec for the CTD).

They don't.
They don't.
Many/Most of the diesels are using the 11.5 American Axle in the rear. The 9.25" gear in the front. The Power Wagon has the smaller 10.5" gear in the rear and the same 9.25" in the front. Apparently, some CTD's also have the 10.5" ring gear like the Power Wagon. GM has used that 10.5" axle for a number of years and there is Eaton lockers available for it. I haven't found a place that will sell me one for my Dodge.
From what I can tell, currently the "TracRite GT" is the only "anti-spin" differential for the 11.5" axle. It is a gear type unit (with little bias) and is not very capable off-road.

It sure would help. Someone on this board said they installed (with some grinding) an Eaton E-Locker meant for a 9.25 Chevy IFS into their Dodge. I'd like to hear more about it.

I think it was a misprint. GM uses the 9.5" ring gear in the rear of the lighter duty 2500 trucks. The front should use the 9.25".
