Just got my truck from the service department. I had the oil changed along with other stuff but I wanted them to look at my injection pump also. When I was greasing the front driveshaft last week I noticed the injection pump a little wet underneath with diesel. They found a cast plug on the pump leaking. The had to order it and will fix it next week. I too noticed that diesel smell at times.

I checked my injector fittings and the injection pump today and no leaks anywhere. No clue what could be causing the odor but I guess I am not going to worry about it.

Keep an eye out... Did you check toward the back of the head, #5 and #6 injector lines?

Yeah I looked at all of them with a flashlight and could not find anything that remotely looked liked it had been leaking or seeping. I will keep an eye on things every oil change.

Looking is fine but you have to get your hands back there to see if it's oily or a lot of dirty buildup from diesel. I would have never found my leaks if I didn't feel them...

And don't do any of this with the engine running....

I checked my rail fittings toady because the rail looked dirty from buildup......sure enough 3,4 and 5 fittings were a little loose! I got almost a 1/4 turn on #3 and #4 and about an 1/8 of a turn on #5. Its all clean and now I will watch and see if it did anything!!!!

I did feel around on the injection pump and it was clean. I will check the rail fittings again today.
