Diesel Fuel Additives - Do you use them?
I have used Stanadyne Performance Formula with decent results, but there has been much debate on various message boards regarding Demulsifyers (clumping water into larger slugs to hopefully be caught by the water/fuel separator) and Emulsifyers (dispersing water into very small droplets which can be safely passed through you fuel injection without any damage.
There has been so much pro & con on both ways, I am thoroughly confused and am thinking I may just use an additive that adds lubricity and cleans injectors (does nothing to attack water in diesel fuel). Cummins neither approves or disaproves of fuel additives, my Dodge manuel says fuel additives are not necesary.
I believe additives help by adding lubricity and keeping injectors clean, exspecially on our newer high tech motors (electronically fuel injected motors, common rail, etc, versus the older pump driven P7100 fuel pumps on the 12V Cummins which was virtually indestructable).
Let the debate begin (again).

I'm interested in a bit confused over emulsifyers and demulsifyers...it would be nice to have some insight from cummins over which they prefer or reccomend.
I do know this...depending on where i get my diesel..occasionally my truck starts running a little rough..and sure enough..one tank of diesel with Power Service and the truck runs noticeable better...not sure if its the cetane boost or the injector cleaner...
I'm interested to hear others opinions...

Well I use a diesel fuel supplement in my truck every fill up and i actually get about 2 mpg better than when i didn't use it. I have 15,000 miles on my truck and no problems yet.
I use a supplement called "Pro Trucker" and it does everything...cleans injectors, boost cetane 3 to 5 numbers, lubricates pump, anti-foaming and hazing it is a great product.
I know this stuff is pretty potent because it calls for 1 quart per 150-250 gallons of diesel!
I really think that if you fill up everyday or other day and are on the road than yes use an supplement due to all the different diesel you get....if not and use the same station than maybe every couple months or so...IMO.

As mentioned several times, the lats time that I looked Stanadyne was the only DFA with some OEM approvals, and they evidently make the Ford DFA. Marine diesels seem to rely heavily upon water separation, not emulsification, evidently for reliability in spite of the obvious exposure to water. Based on that for me it's an obvious answer on what type and what brand to use.
