did i get ripped?
i just got my tranny done at a local reputable shop. my bill came out to just over 2600. i wanted my tranny upgraded and a triple disc billet converter. it ended up getting a recon triple disc billet converter and a sonax HD rebuild kit. this included all the labor as i just dropped my truck off to him. the thing works great, the shift are fast and firm but not jarring(it breaks tires loose on the 1-2 shift under full throttle), and the converter locks up fast and stays locked up way better than stock unit. the truck feels better, but really it seems like it doesn't take much to make these trannys feel better. just curious about the parts that were installed. everything is warrantied 12/12 and the converter is good for longer but not sure how long. are the parts i paid for junk? i guess it doesn't matter, I'm stuck with them now!
thanks for the input, brent

If you got a total rebuild with upgraded parts $2600 sounds like a pretty good deal. If you didn't get a top to bottom rebuild(replaced everything) maybe not so. Considering you can buy a brand new custom performance tranny for around 4k with labor.

Most of the improvements depend on the builder and the attention to detail. The Recons are usually pretty solid but lack the low slip unlocked that the top names deliver. If it feels good enjoy it, if you break it do it in the next 10/10.

I'm getting ready to go the same route. There's a local guy who has diesel customers pushing 750hp on their trannies. I figured for $3000 and a 2yr/24k mile warranty I can't go wrong. I can't justify spending another $2000 just to have a purple transmission. Good luck to ya. I think you'll be fine.

On any one of you, if you're going to have some more power, install some billet shafts. You can search on here to see how many were snapped with and without billet, depends what power level and how much throttle is applied. I myself have not snapped any but I've seen pix and it's costly on the input shaft carnage.

Thanks guys, it is quite enjoyable over the stock one. i felt as though it was a good deal, half what goerend setup i wanted would've cost me without labor. and he also told me what other guys had been doing with similar setups and they seemed to be working out well. he didn't really recommend spending for the billet shafts, he said of all the tranny's he's done he has only ever seen two broken stock shafts and they were both from guys that didn't know when to shut it down when pulling sleds. so he somewhat talked me out of spending that money. so the recon converters aren't too bad then, but what about the sonax stuff? is this stuff worth having in my truck? haven't heard anything bad about them, but then again, really haven't heard anything about them. thanks again guys
