diagnostic scan tool

that's good to know since when I called them about 2yrs ago nobody could answer any Dodge/Cummins questions. They always referred me to the Chrysler specific list, the example they showed at the time was for a Dodge Ram 1500 which I couldn't explain to them didn't offer a diesel. I guess having someone in "customer service" actually understand the product was too much to ask.
Still though it won't do the road tractors highpie also wanted to be able to do.

the AE tool reads ALL OBDII...even CAN....if you were buying a factory Chrysler scantool you could buy the starscan and still read and do what a DRB does...I am pretty sure starscan will read all of Chrysler but not the DRB....

Thats what we use for our Ford fleet, should do Dodge and Gm as well. Heavy duty trucks are mostly proprietary, seperate system for transmissions, another one for engines, and so on. CAT and Cummins have laptop software and their own special interface adapters, Detroit has their own system that reads engines and allison tranny's. I would talk to some of the tractor trailer repair shops and ask what they use. I'm only familliar with what we use at work on our stuff, mostly offroad equipment.

at least on the GM pickups, the snap-on scanner wont do *everything*. Most things, but body stuff, and some transmission computer stuff it wont do. Im not sure if it supports bi-di stuff with the dmax ECM either, ie, throttle control, injector test, etc. Need a Tech 2 for that.

i received the genisys scanner today and played with it a little with a 2006 3500 with a 5.9. it seams to do what i want it to do. i confirmed that it does do cylinder cut-out/injector tests, test the high pressure relief, reads rail pressure, and all kinds of good stuff. gonna play with it more tomorrow.
