diagnostic scan tool

hello and good day. lol

let me tell you about myself, I'am the service manager of a road construction, rock crushing company in saskatchewan, canada. we have 26 dodge 3/4 and 1 tons all with the 5.9 or 6.7 diesel engines and afew chebbie duracraps all ranging from 1999 to 2008. i'm starting to scratch a hole in my head trying to diagnose these things with the stupid trouble codes and no scan tool.

what i really need is a diagnostic scan tool that can do cylinder cut-out, give me all sensor readings, updateable and of course relatively inexpensive (ie.$4-5000.00) and possibly able to plug into highway tractors. lol

i know that sounds like alot to ask from such a tool or a pc program, but if anyone has any suggestions or comments, please let me know.
thanks all

Does anyone know if any of these will alow you to change the custom options like tire size, gear ratio, and enable the high idle? I know the autoingenuity will not. I e-mailed the company an they said no not at this time. I wouldnt mind spending a little extra cash to get one that will do that and also work on other vechicles. The Starscan tool costs $4350.00. # CH9400AM. A little more than I wanted to spend for one make of vechicle.

AE directly emulates the DRBIII, incl flash capabilities if you have the DCJ flashware.

Also is another one from Black Box that does the little rigs and the big rigs

I was told no by a guy who used it for the Duramax. He said it wouldn't do any thing like that, it was more of a scan tool and would display certain sensors. No one at autoenginuity knew anything about the Cummins when I called them a few years ago. When I asked them all they did was forward the page with the "chrysler specific" list which is already on the website. They were no help.

I've never seen a Solus that would do J1708 and J1939 heavy duty vehicles, only OBD. Every non brand specific shop (i.e.Caterpillar, Cummins....ect) always used ProLink. They'll do all vehicles not just light duty automotive. Cat, Cummins, Detroit all use their own brand specific softward but for a small shop that works on more than one make ProLink supports them all.

actually he asked about doing all of them which is why a simple OBDII and canbus scan tool won't do all that he is asking. Autoenginuity and Snap-On SOLUS, or Starscan or GM TechII won't do all the vehicles he wants. Nexiq Prolink will do EVERYTHING if you have a big enough checkbook. Caterpillar, Detroit, Cummins, Volvo, Mack, Navistar, Allison (on highway and off) , ABS brake systems, Dana/Eaton, Chrysler, Ford, GM. (just to list a few) Here is a link to what systems Nexiq will do.

the AE tool DOES do cut out test on the cummins...but you have to have the expansion software

the OTC genesis is a AWESOME tool but so is the Snap-on...the problem is they are 3k-5k...hard to justify that kinda coin if you dont work on cars and trucks everyday

that's good to know since when I called them about 2yrs ago nobody could answer any Dodge/Cummins questions. They always referred me to the Chrysler specific list, the example they showed at the time was for a Dodge Ram 1500 which I couldn't explain to them didn't offer a diesel. I guess having someone in "customer service" actually understand the product was too much to ask.

Still though it won't do the road tractors highpie also wanted to be able to do.

You may need two. Up through 05 the trucks used the DRBIII and the 06 up use the the Starscan tool (CANbus).
