"DEATH WOBBLE" AGAIN. Whats the deal?

Got the Death Wobble again today on my way home from Santa Barbara. This is the third time it has happened and enough is enough. I have the 2inch leveling kit and the 315's. I replaced the the front shocks(Pro Comps) got an alignment, and tires re-balanced. Whats next???? This is B.S and a serious safety issue. Is the leveling kit and 315's the problem? If so, they are gone tomorrow and the stock stuff is going back on. I don't see how that could be the problem though.

The last few miles before I got home, I could feel every bump on the freeway and it seems like it is vibrating through the whole truck. I pulled a few threads on the track bar and possible steering stablizer problems. Need some help. Going to take it to the dealer tomorrow, curious to hear what they say and if the warranty will apply because of the bigger tires and leveling kit. Any imput would be greatly appreciated.....Thanks

I'll tell you right now your warranty won't apply. I have a feeling that even if you took the stuff off, and they knew you had it on there, they would still void the warranty. I thought the 3rd gens had a beefed up trac bar and didn't have this problem anymore. Guess not.

I talked to Kent at T-Rex a few weeks ago, and he was very suspicious of the coil spacers causing the wobble. I asked and he confrimed that a dual steering stabilizer set up my help too. He also wasn't a big fan of our 315's either. I'm ordering a set of longer coils (either Skyjacker or T-Rex) this week.

Well, i'm going to hit up the dealer anyways and see what they think. I saw a thread about a "Lukelink". If the track bar is bad, can I just put the Lukeslink on? Will that solve the prob of the bad track bar. I will also look into the new steering stabilizer as well. Lots of different opinions out there regarding this prob. Just want the correct fix..........

Hmmm.. My dealer installed mine and my 315s. Haven't had any problems. After reading about this, I jumped on the highway and got on it. No problems with wobble.. Hope it doesn't find it's way to me. But, I too have the 2 inch level puck and 315 BFG's...

As for voiding the warranty, I can't see how it could.. then again, maybe I am just uninformed.

The dealership will find any excuse they can to void your warranty. You could put a sticker on your back glass and if the glass starts leaking, they'll blame it on the sticker. And if you think I'm joking, go try to get some warranty work done with an aftermarket part on. It's like pulling teeth.

Death Wobble

Mine was the stabilizer bar. Make sure it's good or put on a dual setup. Mine was completely stock and had it.

Went to the dealer today. Service guy told me nothing was wrong with the suspension. Track bar was good and so was the steering stabilizer. He did suggest a better steering stabilizer over the stock one. I ordered a new stabilizer and will get a Lukeslink as well. I guess we will see if the probelm gets fixed. Don't know what else to try......

Lukeslink is for 2nd generation not 3rd!!!!!
I installed one on my old truck so I know the deal on it. 3rd gen eliminated the ball joint issue that the Lukeslink made adjustable.

I would say that the root CAUSE of the wobble is the reduction in caster caused by lifting the vehicle.

If the upper and lower links have any caster adjustment in them, have the alignment shop give you as much positive caster as you can. Too much toe-in or toe-out can contribute as well. Normally, loose components cause it, but with an '03 I wouldn't expect this...

In my other hobby (rockcrawling), we see this quite a bit. Adding extra stabilizers is regarded as a band-aid, and merely masks the problem. My tire/wheel combo is over 125lbs each, and I don't need a stabilizer for on-road use.

Hope this helps.

You did have an alignment done after installing the lift kit, didn't you?

Got the info about the Lukeslink being for the 02's and earlier. Yes, I did an alignment after the install and tire balance. When the alignment was done though, the guy showed me how the passenger side tire was closer to the rear part of the fender than the driver side. It looks like the axle is crooked. He said that was from the leveling kit install and the track bar not being long enough. Any suggestions, Is that possible????????????????

Yep, that's possible. When the truck is lifted away from the axle, it effectively increases the angle of the track bar, typically pulling the axle to one side. A true solution would of course be a longer track bar, but you might also try and find a track bar relocation bracket. I know they are used in many 4" and up lifts to correct this very problem. Maybe there's one out there for a 2"-2.5" or perhaps you could have one made.

Now, would the angle of the axle cause the Death Wobble? Anyone know if someone makes a bracket for the 2 1/2 lift? I'm getting to the point where I'm going to take off the leveling kit and put the stock tires back on.......I checked the track bar by moving the steering wheel back and forth. The track bar does not move. Everythink looks tight. the truck does not pull likes it out of alignment.
