Then on top of that , many shops may diagnose an issue , but it seems that few look for the original cause , much like our medical system , only treating the symptoms .
At least that's how I see it after 30 yrs of being either a tech or shop owner .
Exactly, they are only parts re-placer's not diesel mechanics at the dealership.

After all my years working for Mopar, as a jeep and dodge service writer, i can tell you that is a true statement. i have only meet a few good Diesel techs. guys that look at a truck, and find the source by looking at the problems that the source created. all the "new blood" are trained to look and find the source of the problem, but all they do is what makes the most money for them. to the hell with the customers. the only dodge diesel tech id trust is the one here at my local dealer, and another i worked with years ago in north idaho.

and what compounds the problem is service writers who think that you need more then what the tech askes them to report. i got "let go" from the local jeep dealer here for not , "giving the customer what they need" as in not marking up the repair ticket with parts and services they dont need....

BAH!

Thursday Epilog:
The mechanic calls me to tell me the tank cleaned up well. However, the cannister that is in the tank was unable to be cleaned. He recommended putting in the new lift pump in the tank and put it all back together. I'm not so sure about this how a lift pump kit cleans up a cannister?

The lift pump on the filter housing was not broken? I think to cover themselves they needed to at least put in a new lift pump in the tank of course.
The bill right now is at 1600.00.

R/r tank
R/r filter housing
Run diagnostics

I think I may have the insurance company help me out on the price.

It should be running this afternoon hopefully....we'll see

Oh and they a 07 mega cab they are wanting me to trade ....

my truck and 21k. They are nucking frutz! I offered them 15k
and my truck .....

Friday:
Got my truck back.
Labor 1215.95
parts 599.00
misc 52.09
tax 129.05
-----------
1996.09

r/r tank and clean
put lift pump in tank( my lift pump wasn't bad)
put on new FCA

I think I have been fuked........................and see the original estimate of over 9700.00 was a joke. What if I hadn't known a little bit about my truck and know what a lot of you guys have gone through.

I think that I will be contacting a consumer advocacy group or an attorney because someone needs to know how and what these dealers are doing to people. I guess if I would have been a regular joe, I would have just paid the 9700.00 bucks and took it up the butt like a real man?

DO NOT GO TO WESTSIDE DODGE in JACKSONVILLE florida or their other store in Orange Park, Florida because this is the way they do business.

One last thing....They had a 2007 MegaCab never titled with a 47k list price on it. I looked up that truck on Kelly Blue Book with a private party sale and the highest and excellent price was 31,880.00 My truck was 17,100.00 on the lowest rating. I offered them 15,000 and my truck and was ready to stroke them a check. They came back with my truck plus 20,800. add on tax, title, and dealer fees. What's really ironic, is I called another dealer in town and told them the truck I want is over there and they are willing to buy it from them and do the deal. SO what's up with these dealers soon to go out of business for scrwing the public. Fare thee well.

Just be careful out there , there are people ripping people off. I learned a valuable lesson.

Unfortunately, screwing their own customers and the buying public in general is not enough. Now the American taxpayers are fronting billions to keep them afloat. As long as they get a free government ride it will only get worse.

Buy tools and stock up on spare parts.

quick update.
All is well today is Monday 3/2/2009. Truck runs as good as the day I bought her. I sincerely believe the dealer was trying to make up on some money just on my truck. That being said, I will never go to Westside Dodge or their sister dealership in Orange Park.

For me the honest mechanic that I conferred with was at Garber Chryler.dodge jeep. He was dead on what was wrong and gave me a verbal estimate of around 1000.00 bucks.

He even went as far as telling me where parts outside the dealer were less in price and was willing to assist me verbally should I try and do the repair myself. Almost.....it would have been a lot less than 9700.00 !!!!!!!!!!

Most of the time the issues of this nature I have seen or been involved in was more of incompetence then trying to purposely rip some one off.

This is not true. I live in Japan right now and I have a car that was made in 1995 and a buddy of mine drives a car that was made in 1987. Most of the cars that are on the road are near 10 years old. It is not all that common to see cars that are new on the road in Japan besides in Tokyo and other large cities.

As long as were on the subject , I wander if that rumor is part of one I've heard for a few decades , emission laws do not allow engines with over 30-40 thousand miles ?
For at least 2 decades , being in the auto repair bis. in a couple states , Ca. & Mn. , I have gotten multiples of these engine for customers , when 1st getting them , while in Ca. , they were cheap , compared to used engines hear , $400-600 here , the Japanese engines were $150 , the only difference was that there was not a single piece that stayed on the motor , manifolds , mounting brackets , oil pans ect , just used the blocks & heads .
This may be part of that rumor ?

Quick update:
The lab,"Interscience" has blew the analysis of what was in the fuel sample to this very date. They have not performed the analysis and and my insurance company has been waiting on that analysis before they would render a decision. However, this last friday the insurance company told me if they did not hear from the lab friday 4/09/2009 they would be stroking me a check.....I'm calling in the morning to find out when they are mailing my check.

For future repairs I suggest taking it straight to a Big truck shop, that's what I do with my 06' after dodge qouted $18,500 for a new engine and said the old one couldn't be re-built. A local big truck shop where I take my KW said that was bs and re-built mine, out the door for $8,000(new in-frame, block cleaned, bored, sleeved, new head and turbo).
