OK, This is what I was told by this Cummins power systems shop this morning... This shop is located in Glen Burnie, MD on Park 100 dr. Yes you can bring your truck here and have us work on things that are not ECM related, (they cant read the ECM) we will diognose and give you a written repair estimate for what is wrong, if you decide to take it to the dealer your free to do this. If you want us to rebuild your engine we can do this to, BUT it is not coverd under warrenty, If your insurance provider lets you bring it here, we can do the repairs.

take a sharpie marker. prior to installing the filter, write down the date, mileage, and sign it.
makes it hard for them to give you some filter just laying around, doesnt it?

My truck runs fine once warm but smokes and runs rough cold.
I have drained more than what they showed me from many a truck as well on my 06. they have only one juice bottle and no way to rinse it from each use nor did they clean the hose out that is open to the wind 24-7.
I think they are nailing dodge and the coust and not doing the work. keep in mind that my dealer has lied to me many times and charged me for an oil change that they did not do. UH yea i'am mad, They think i'am stupid.
Oyea they sad it would cost 1000 bucks to have a lab test the fuel.
Why send it to a lab when theas GOOBERS can just look at it and tell.
If I wasen't so mad I'd be laughing, hope you all can laugh with me soon.

Just a little update.
Brought mine to another dealer. 25 minuites and i am back on the road, did the reflash. i had spoken with their tec. and he told me they have not changed all 6 on any commonrail trucks, this is a hi-volume small town dealer. Very happy with them.
My truck has ran fine so far. No white smoke or rough running when cold even in below-0 temps without it pluged in.
Just got back from CO. 21.8 mpg 702 miles on a tank and thats without the Quad xzt. Not bad for a truck with six bad injectors!!!

It's pretty insane what I'm hearing here. I am going to make double-**** sure the dealer does the required service WHEN required and SIGNS for it.

Week after I buy my truck I ask 3 people at my dealership abuot 5w40 diesel truck oil (mobil 1) - looking in the shop I see a ram with the hood up, valve cover off. They're in there, replacing an injector. The shop had a pretty casual but still-professional attitude about it. "Yup - covered under warranty, no question. Seal broke on the injector, started filling the crank with fuel". I'd already bought my truck and the guy didn't really know how long I'd had it. I asked how much work they ended up doing on them over time - "Almost none".

If it makes anyone feel better the city and many local lawn services use 2003 and up CTDs. Many have 2, 3, 400K on them and more and run like a top. I'm sure they get fleet (read-regular) maintenance but probably not a lot of love.

I just went through the same thing bad fuel knocked out my lift pump when working out of town took it to a dealership had it replaced when they droped the tank said there was water a debry in the tank replaced under warranty. got my truck back ran fine next week pulling my travel trailer home and started to get get a slight knock. Took my truck to a local dealership said I needed six new injectors from prior fuel contamination and warranty would not cover called my insurance company put in a comprehensive claim and had everything replaced for a 50 dollar deductible with a total bill coming close to 5000 dollars.

Been a long time since I posted since I no longer have my truck. The problem comes from the contamination entering through the open vent hose connections on top of the fuel tank that were left off from the factory of 69,300 trucks. (This was a mistake made by DC)

1.Never had a water in fuel light
2.Never a service engine soon light
3.Never saw a decrease in performance until "THE DAY" (took it in next am)
4.I had the F-19 recall done in August 06 (14148 miles)
5.Problem showed up in March 07 (33,000 miles) my fuel light had just came on and I was driving on an extremely rough state highway in Texas.
6.I saw the filter, contamination in the tank was sand-like with bug legs, etc. no way it would pass thru a station's pump.
7.Why does Dodge make a decision to recall these trucks and check only for water and not the tank for trash, etc? Evidently the water passed thru undetected and the sediment just washed around till it became a problem.

Dealer said it would cost 6700.00 to bring back to warranty status and they would not cover it because it was contaminated fuel.

I called my insurance company and an adjuster went to the dealership and took pictures, etc. and the service man told him the fuel filter had not been changed on schedule. I was told by the service manager that it was changed when the recall was done ....and the receipt and the recall info says that it is supposed to be changed if WATER is found. If no water found...just replace hoses.
Insurance company says: Yall are bailing out because of the fuel filter...then we are bailing out because of the fuel filter.

I told them I would not pay another dime on the truck (financed thru Dodge) unless they covered it. They said OH WELL.
I dropped my insurance company also.
The truck was repaired and they totalled everyting up to 40,000.00+ and said thats what I owed them. They sold the truck for 29,600 (which I thought was pretty good) and put the rest on my credit for collection.

Do you think I should have gone thru all of this when the only thing I had against me was being 3000 miles overdue for a filter change? If someone had put sand in my fuel tank...would I be covered even if it was a brand new filter? Im sure a brand new filter would have plugged and "bypassed" just like mine did.

By the way I got 19mpg.
In 15000 miles (recommended filter change interval) my truck has passed thru significantly less fuel than someone who USES their truck to haul with...who only gets 9Mpg.
See my point

That's a horrible situation. I'd be on that dealers butt like nothing else. This is one of the reasons I'll never buy a Dodge again. You've got idiots with programmers making 150 extra HP getting free transmissions multiple times...... But when it comes to something like this it's no cigar.

What I don't understand is why does their filtration system allow this kinda junk to go past? Why won't it just clog and kill the truck, maybe they should redesign this. I know my tractors won't run or barely run if the filter is clogged.

Thanks for the vent hose info, it's a shame that what caused it. I would have shown that to the insurance company.
Are there any 07 5.9's with this vent tube issue?

Also, what I learn from this is is that you should have taken it someplace else. Probably could have got it fixed for less even if you had to put it on a credit card.

I have read 5 pages of this stuff.
Sounds like all would be solved if the (water in fuel) light would come on when it's suppose to and the fuel filter would work correctly.
But I guess thats wishful thinking.

Dealer covered all repairs under warranty but said Dodge had refused a couple others due to fuel being so contaminated. I would definately take a fuel sample and send it to be tested. Our local diesel repair shop said they could get ours done so I'd check with yours or the other posts mentioned CAT had this service. Dealer said injector failures have definately increased since the ULSfuel came out.
Can you refer me to any threads that talk about specific incidents where ULSD has harmed someone's 3rd generation Cummins?
I haven't seen anything about its effects on the later motors.
