Dealer said no need for TSB
Hello
I went to the dealer for the lates TSB for the white smoke and overhead trip. They hooked up the little computer thingy they have and 5 minutes later, the service manager told me that they recommend I dont have this download until I get more miles. They told me I need to wait until it is broken in more. I have 2500 miles now. It will take me a long, long time to really break this engine in since I dont drive long trips much. What do you guys think. Is the dealer right about this or should I insist on getting it done. My milage is just as bad as everybody elses. 12 to 15. I am assuming it will get better as miles grow but I am sick of waiting. Thanks for any input.

I would insist on it if you have the time. that is me though. I have seen people say they got an increase with the same amount of miles you have.
I am going to do it at my first service unless my MPG goes up dramatically. I am only waiting till then just because it is convienent since the first three sevices are free I am not truning that down.

Had mine done today 2000 miles. I was going to wait, but at 45 degrees motor engine ran ruff and smoked at startup. To soon to tell if any improvement. Also enabled fast idle feature seems to work well.

I got the flash last thursday and immediately noticed a difference. Time will tell as I cannot do a good comparison mileage wise due to the winter fuel switch here in Alaska. I have listened to the dealer tell me repeatedly to wait for break in to get good fuel mileage (last time 50,000 miles) and I dont believe that breakin will bring me up from 10.5 to 15. Do yourself a favor and insist on the flash.
Good luck

What is this fast idle I keep hearing about? I had the flash done on my truck and since then there's a slight ackward idle when it's cold so I'm gonna be going back to have that looked at as well as the 3-4 shift at 3/4 throttle because of weird RPM and shifting.

Mine is reading about 1.5 mpg better on the overhead... still haven't gone through a tank yet, so I don't know if there's any improvement in calculated mileage.

By the way, before, my overhead was accurate within 0.2 mpg.

I did gain mileage (about 1 mpg under all conditions), but my overhead is now about .5-.8 mpg higher than what I'm really getting. Used to be very close to right, now not so much. But my mileage is better, so I'll suffer.
I'd not wait. I had my done @ 6k miles and it helped. It's an update. It's for your truck. It comes from DC. You should be able to get it, no questions asked.

Sam--I am with you on the overhead being wrong now, mine by 1-1.5 mpg, but my overall mileage also seems to be up by about the same amount. Best tank mileage I ever had before the flash was 16.2 by hand, driving like a blue hair and never let motor over 2000 rpms. First tank after flash was 17.7 and I drove it a lot harder because I had to make several trips and was in a hurry. Interstate travel mileage is also up after getting the Nittos on and adjusting for 5.5% difference in miles on odometer vs. real distance travelled. Now I can cruise at 75 MPH at ~2000 RPMs and dont have to listen to my 2200 RPM drone!
