I think alot of the problem is how good your fuel is before you filter it. The truck stop I get mine at has a 10micron inside the pump, and a 10 micron spin on , on the outside too. This is the only station around here with two filters I know of on the pump. Wish they had like a 5micron on the pump. I read were the Powerstroke uses a 17micron, at least that's what Amsoil says.

I hate to bust every ones bubble but the filter that Glacier uses is not listed as a 2micron filter but instead 5 micron. @ 2micron it filters at 92.8% efficiency and then 98.9%@5microns.
Our stock factoy 10micron filters filter at 98.7%@10 microns and 83%@ 5 microns.

well, according to fleetguard, it is a filter media that is nearly identical to the filter media in CAT 2 micron spin on filters..

now, cat clams their 2 micron filter filters are 2 micron @ 98% efficency

[the 1r0749 or ff5319 are identical to the 1r0720 or ff5320 except for length]

This fuel filter crap is all way to confusing. I picked one up from the dealer the other day and just told him I wanted a fuel filter for an '06 Cummins and he handed me one off the shelf. Im betting its a 10 micron but at this point I don't care - Im putting the da**mn thing in and theres no way the dealer can say Im using the wrong filter because THEY SOLD IT TO ME!!! I wanted to get a 7 micron after reading on here but its not even worth the hassle since I already got the other one. Thanks for killing some of my brain cells guys. I don't have many to spare.

I have been buying the Fleetguard premium (7 Micron FS19800) from Genos. The Fleetguard part number is listed in the approved filters show on the TSB in this post.
I guess I'm ok to keep on rollin'

Best filter I use is the fleetguard hydraulic filter HF6604 rated a 3 microns. Last time I changed my stock filter fs19800e it came out looking brand new? No black asphaltene gumming it up and the bowl was sparkling clean. I should mention that all this careful fuel filtration wont prevent injector tip carbon deposits from forming..........

In my experience and opinion carbon builds on 3rd gen injector tips when the engine is used light duty. It is very similar to a low temp burning fire that produces smoke. Although driving the hell out of it can raise combustion temps, the duration of higher cylinder temps is more important. I have noticed that with normal driving my pyro averages around 600F. Not hot enough to stop carbon formation regardless of additive use. Sooner or later the tips carbon up and injectors get noisy and idles rough. Short full throttle burst don't clear this up. Only solution I have found is working the motor by towing or hauling and keeping the exhaust temps above 900F for a good run. These engines by design are medium duty industrial motors meant for WORK. So I have resigned myself to having to exercising this motor occasionally like a man would a draft horse. Remember the cummins is not a light duty grocery getter

I agree. Sorry I did not see this thread sooner.
7 micron is the best your gonna get.
Putting on a 2 micron system would most likely not void your warranty. If they could make a 2 micron single filter system that could last and provide adequate flow they would already have to as a warranty reduction.
The problem is that if you wanted to run a 2 micron filter it would have to be about twice the size of a normal 7 micron filter to provide the same amount of flow over a reasonable amount of time.
That's why big trucks have dual filters. One at 7-9 micron and one at 2 micron.
Getting a 2 micron system is a great upgrade.
Towing a trailer is a great thing to do to your engine every so often.
