Ok lost second injector on I75 75 mph when I noticed it, don't know how long I ran it until I noticed rapid decrease of fuel on gauge. Local dealer replaced injector and nothing else. Told me all was well. Truck MPG was noticeably reduced, some smoke running and starting. Tried to lemon it but due to being over 36K was told wouldn't work. Local Cummins dealer told me also that normal for them under these conditions was to pull pan at a minimum and check for bearing damage. Many times that it also damaged rings. Therefore you also may have some major damage that will take some time to show it's ugly face. In my case it was easier to trade for a new truck, got a great deal and have not looked back since as sop far my 07 5.9 has been almost trouble free for 37K miles. Normal maintaince and that's it.
Good luck and hopefully your local dealer can find some damage and will help you get a replacement engine.

The startup smoke is more blue than black. I havent put alot of miles on it to see it is burring oil of any large quanity. It isnt a every day driver anymore. I have 84k on it and the invoice only included injectors oil filter, fuel filter and a ecm flash. One of my major worrys is if i start to go after them and they refuse to do anything and then it fails they will clame that it was misuse and then void warr. If I were to just drive the hell out of it till it blew then there might be less issues. Also about 5k ago the dealer relaced the steering box and the ecm

How have you determined it lost mileage??? Overhead or hand calculated? I had a reflash to get my manual high idle working and my overhead MPG is now off. It used to be dead on. Your loss of mileage may be due to the flash. Just saying, it is possible.

Yeap, that is exactly what happened to mine. Overhead says 19.5 and I would actually get 17. What is your mileage and what gears are you running?

Before it would say I was getting 17.5 and I would be getting 17.0.

Have you tried taking it to Chapman Dodge on McDowell? Those guys are pretty good in there. If it was mine Id make sure they have a record of it incase something does happen because they will cover you if you have problems that pertain to a recent issue even if you are out of warranty. I would do the manometer check for the blowby on the oil fill cap and then install a good oil pressure gauge and look for any bouncing of the needle or inconsistancies. As for hearing a rod knock which could happen, well thats obviously going to be really tough. Good Luck, keep us posted!

You could of melted a piston or three.... See if they will pull the injectors and look with a bore scope to see if they see anything.

The last trip I took was from Phx to Tucson. I ran 65 to 70. I wanted to get the best possible. The overhead said 19 and actual was 15.5. On the same trip i would normal read 23 and actual would be around 19 to 20 all with 4:10s. Also that is running empty just passangers

Hi all, First Post from me.

You have washed down the cylinder walls and therfore lowered your compression. Have a compression check done and go from there, It may eventually re-seat the rings and it may not. I would want the head removed and the cylinders re-honed with new rings if it were mine. Call Cummins and talk to them. They will probably advise more research especially since you now have smoke and lower economy. Good Luck.

What does all that diesel in the oil do to the turbo and injection pump?

It can get the turbo bushings, won't mess with the injection pump at all. CP3 is not lubed by the engine oil. It is lubed by the fuel.

Good advice! I did this once with a Monte Carlo SS I had. Found the oil level going up and took it in at 34,000 miles on a 36,000 mile warranty. Chevy said it had a bad head gasket and replaced it. I took it home and checked the oil and it was still foamy. Called and asked if they changed the oil and inspected the engine internally for damage. Nope, everything should be fine inside is what I was told.

I told them I was bringing it back in..... I drove the 15 miles to the dealer in second gear doing 70mph, redlining the engine the whole way. By the time I got there the engine was knocking so loud they could hear the car before I reached the dealership.

The lead mechanic yelled 'SHUT 'ER DOWN!!!' and I got out and explained how his dumbass service writer and mechanics never changed the oil after it had water in it....

I got a new crate motor

Sounds like cherrypicking at its finest.
What is the odds of two injectors going bad at the same time, much less all six going bad? The cause would have to be common to all injectors.

At any rate the engine is compromised. It's now problem after problem waiting to happen.
A friend had his new GM truck's transmission "fixed" three times, then he put it against a power pole and floored it until the tranny smoked and locked up. Got a brand new tranny. Not saying anything.

Other option is to engage a lawyer with experience and a track record of success in warranty litigation. Start documenting everything regarding this issue.
