I highly doubt it. Dodge is now working on the 48RE as the auto for the HO's.

But Ford owns Cummins and they &quot;Let&quot; us use them? <br><br>Don't believe me, just ask any Ford owner.

 

I'm sooooooooo tired of hearing that! Let's get the facts straight guys... Ford does not nor have they ever owned Cummins. They held less than 10% for a few months several years ago. Does GM actually own Allison though? I though it was a contract deal like Dana was for DC.

For many years, Allison was owned by GE. It was called GE - Allison Division. This may have changed in the past few years as everything in the industry keeps moving around (Like DCX). From what I hear, though, the Allison in the Duramax is only good for 20 - 50,000 miles. Why would we want it? From my limited experience the six-speed is the way to go. No more deep-dark holes, and with the HO you're only going to use 2 &amp; 4 in town, and 2,4, and 6 on the highway without a load. Guys that grew up with nothing but autos though will have to remember to push the clutch in when stopping - HeeHeeHee.

 

I also can't understand the desire for automatics. Maybe if you are in traffic all the time. The efficiency loss and reputation alone would drive me toward manuals without the issues you have driving with them in the mountains.<br><br>When I was looking at Fords some time ago, I couldn't find a single 6-speed Lariat powerstroke in the whole Denver metro area. I found it refreshing that 6-speeds were the common in Dodge's top of the line trucks.<br><br>I guess it's just different strokes....no pun intended <br>Can't wait for my '03 HO.<br>Kris

 

Allison is a subsidiary of GM. And they last alot longer than 20-50k like someone stated earlier. I have owned 4 Dmax/Allison trucks in the past year and have had super luck with the allison tranny. DC has such a large amount of technology in their stable of companies they are not going to go to a subsidiary of GM for a tranny.

 

Just a little added info here,<br><br>Some of you may not know that Dodge built some 1st Gen trucks with a Cummins and an Allison automatic behind it.<br><br>Some time back, there was one in my area for sale and I talked to the owner who had bought it new. <br><br>Dan

 

Dan, are you sure somebody's not pulling your leg. We sold a ton of those first gener trucks and I never saw any Allison trannies. all 727's and the other one that I can't remember the model number because that seems like an eternity ago. But We never had any with allisons. ??? ??? ???

 

Luke<br><br>I have no proof of this except the owner insisted that it was an Allison. At that time it was for sale, but I do not know if it is still around here or not. I have actually heard of one more, but I do not remember where it was. <br><br>At first I figured it had been changed. This turned out to be a one owner and it seems he ordered it, but did not know it was going to be that way until he found out about it later. I was interested in it, but did not go look at it. I was told I could check it out if I wanted to. It was a 92 or 93, I do not remember which.<br><br>So, I cannot say for sure. Maybe someone else will know for certain.<br><br>Dan

 

Dan,<br><br>A friend of mine had an old Dodge diesel and installed an Allison. Had to beat the firewall back about 4&quot; with a sledge hammer to make it fit. Wasn't very purdy but he made it work. There were several in the area that had been adapted. I saw a 99 converted about 2 years ago - - the people were full timers. Did the old sledge hammer thing also to make room for the larger tranny. Do not know what model Allison they used. They said there are a lot of them running around.<br><br>Bob

 

I have found most times people have no idea what they really have. Latest proof of this: Guy I know down the road bought a new Ford dually Powerstroke about 6 months ago. He insisted that it had an Allison in it, and said the dealer even told him it had an Allison. But then no one ever said Ford owners were real bright ;D
