Crank case over fill!!!
Me dumb, brain dead, etc.I changed oil today and over filled by a liter[large quart]forgot I was also filling the filter. After sitting for 2 hours dip stick shows about 3/4" over full mark.Should I be concerned and try to lower it?Old heads some days are old.Thanks.My gut feeling is that is that is not too much.

Too much oil over the full mark is not a good thing. It can cause frothing "being churned by crankshaft" and can lead to overheating and loss of adequate lubrication. I would drain off the excess to the proper level.

This past oil change I actually put in less than 3 gallons of oil. I probably dropped it by 1 quart. The reason is I was noticing some oil around the outside of my oil pan and tranny housing that was coming from my blow-by tube. So I thought i would try putting in just a little less and see what happened. It seemed to help because there is very little oil residue on my oil pan or tranny now.
That said, I would err on the side of being a little low than being high. I suggest you drain some off.

Cummins advises that a quart over will not hurt anything and will blow by with a mess of course.2 qts. should be drained because of possible frothing.I have drained to correct level.Thanks.
