Angry CP3 Leaking - Again!

This one lasted exactly 2 years and less than 17,000 miles, and is the replacement pump that Videon installed in January 2006. I noticed the spot on the ground when I came out of work today. When I parked at the gym tonight, I noted it was clean under the truck. Two hours later, came out, sure enough, there it is - the spot. Got underneath, and the wiring harness under the pump is wet with diesel.

My truck is actually going in for regular service next week, so I guess I will have to somehow prove to those guys again that I have a leak. Last time, they denied it was leaking, and I had to DRAG the tech under the truck and put his finger in the wet spot. Then they'll have to call STAR, etc, etc., order the part, wait 3 weeks, take the truck back, etc. Part of me wants to say the heck with it, let it leak. But as long as it's under warranty I'll have it done.

I think this time I'll put a piece of cardboard under the truck the night before I drop it off, and HAND it to them as proof.

What a pain

Man, I'm sorry for your woes... my truck has been perfect for me, sans some stupid related problems...

Hope they get you taken care of quickly.

I know - CP3 leaks are not a major issue - just a pain to get my dealer to get off his you know what to get 'er done. Am I going to have to have this thing replaced every two years - because after my 7/70 is up, I'm out of warranty, and I'd be inclined just to let the danged thing leak!

the diesel engine covers it so your good for 100,000 on the warranty part. there is no longer a restriction on the 03-07 trucks. so no dealing with calling in to starcenter. unless they dont work on many trucks at your dealer it shouldnt take long at all to replace it, i have swapped 2 on my lunch hour from truck to truck and had them running before my lunch was up.

Have you even looked to see where the leak actually is - maybe it's not as bad as you're hoping..................

Just dropped mine off at the dealer with a leaky CP3. They called me to let me know they ordered a pump and the truck would be ready the next day. Only 12300 mi. on mine. Hopefully the new one will hold.

That's interesting. Is it because so many were leaking? Anway, good to know guys. I'll give you an update next week after I drop it off.

By the way, 4WLOW, who is your dealer in Lancaster?

I lost 2 cp3's on my old 05' due to blown leaky seals. Both within 65K miles, both times dealer said its a common problem with the 05's.

Wexman, My dealer is Providence Dodge. Got my truck back and all is well. I have no complaints about Providence.

Same here. Mine leaks every winter. I got tired of having the pump replaced every winter and having my truck damaged by the tech. Radiator broken, condensor fins mashed, fan shroud broken and many scratches on the fenders and sport bumper. Rather than go through this every winter, I just decided to live with a fifty cent piece size drip per night on the driveway. As soon as the temperature exceeds twenty degrees, no leak.

I am new to the forum; however, my pump on my 05 also leaks. Decide to take it in - tough call now that I read that it could reoccur on a regular basis. I did notice also that during summer - it does not leak or leak as bad as in the winter. I have had Dodge truck gassers for years and this is my first diesel (finally).

Mine has almost stopped the last couple days with unusually warmer weather. Since it's not doing it right now, unless it starts again by Tuesday, I know my dealer will do nothing.

It has to go back in April for state inspection, so I guess I'll just monitor over the winter, and if it keeps up, take it in later.
