Cp3 Leaking Again
#32
mine is also a different number than from before. original one lasted 30k, then leaked every 20k after that. this one is also a new part number.
4th pump in 72k miles is BS. dealer has been very cool about it.

Don't remember if on here or TDR but a member fixed his own.Said it had to be kept super clean but he opened his up and match up the internal o/rings with same size but thicker and put it back togather.Claim there was nothing difficult about it.Some torx head screws and split it open.

I took the CP3 I got off eBay apart and noticed all the o-rings, I was wondering rich2500 if these were the ones you replaced, now I know. I think the only thing tough about the o-ring replacement would be just getting the CP3 off the truck itself. I'm not a 100% sure, but don't you need a speacial gear puller to get the CP3 out? As far as the o-ring replacement itself, there's not too much that could go wrong, just stay clean.

The post I read was he got same diameter but went to a thicker o/ring.Stated he thought dissimilar metals(rate of exspansion and contraction) caused the leaks. But anyhow went to thicker o/rings and reinstalled with no leaks.

yes all those o-rings between the two halves of the pump are the leakers
yes a gear puller is needed to pull the pump gear,I just use a steering wheel puller that I shortened the center bolt so I don't have to pull the fan off,you must be careful though because there is a lock washer behind the nut holding the gear on and you don't wanna drop it.
yes clean is very important, any dirt that passes through the pump will end up in the injectors.
