Couple of questions about 2006 Cummins Diesel engine

I have an 04 CTD and LOVE it. The only thing is I can really use the extra room of the Mega Cab and was thinking of swapping.

I have two major questions:

1. Is the engine the same in the 06 as the 04? If not, Better or Worse?

2. Is the fuel mileage the same? I get a combined 15 in my 2004 Quad Cab LB 2500. With the price of fuel, can't really afford a decrease in MPG.

Thanks in advance for the help
Tony

All the numbers should be the same as far as fuel economy... from what I've read so far from 06 owners. Keep in mind there is a substantial break in period where you will not get great fuel economy.

These questions would probably be answered better, and quicker in the 3rd Gen forums.
Moving it over there.

If you have a 305 hp early '04 (non cat) then these trucks seem to get the best mileage of the 3rd gens. Some '06 get good mileage, some not so good. More smog junk on the '06. '07 will be worse yet.

15 is bad mileage for your '04 whether it's the 305 or 325! The '06 has one distinct advantage over the '04's. The Transfer pump is in the tank instead of inline. Pushing the fuel instead of sucking it up from the fuel tank. IMHO there seems to be a lot more griping from '06 owners about poor mileage. Maybe it's because they're new and not broken in yet. The Mega Cab is very nice if you're sitting in the back seat, which most of us are not. There also is no LWB version of the Mega Cab.
Cheers
Mike

Mpg

Maybe I get 15.5, but that is it. I drive 3/4 city miles. I would say 14.5 city and 17.5 highway. That is the same number others on here have posted for the '04 Later CTD, Quad cab, LB, 4x4. Is that what others are getting? Is there something that makes the MPG better, aside of the fuel additives.....IE Stanadyne, MEan Kleen, Power Service?

You have the ISB 305 or 325?
There is an ECM flash for the ISB 325 (Cummins 600) that is suppose to improve mileage. TSB 18-037-04
