Cooling intake air!

I just noticed you were from West Virginia. I did an 8-day, 5,000 mile motorcycle trip a couple years ago that took me through WV and while on a backroad I stoped to take a picture of the bike next to a rock outcropping with water running down it. A trashed out minivan slowly drove by and I gave a casual wave. As it went by I noticed a young girl, maybe 3 or 4, was at the back window giving me the bird just clear as day!
That's my lasting memory of WV.

Looks like you travelled rt 60 through WV. Its not marked so I cant tell for sure. Probably went by Hawks nest state park and rode some real winding mountain rds. When you went below Charleston I live exactly 46 miles north right on I-77. The trip in the east of WV and into Virginia is very beautiful. You probably hit RT 33 in there somehwere and went through Blackwater falls, Cannan Valley and Seneca Rocks. May have seen Seneca Caverns, or Smoke Hole caverns. Lots of good trout fishing over in there. Yes the rock outcropping looks familiar

If the turbo is where the worst heat transfer is that would explain why when it's cold out there is really no diffence in air temp going into the motor because the temperature is dictated by the motor not the outside air.

An intercooler alone will never return the air into the motor at a temperature equal to or less than ambient.

I realize the intake air is not going to be the same as outside air when it goes into the motor. How can we reduce the temperature? Like I said before heat transfer in the turbo sound like the worst problem. How can we reduce the heat transfer? Getting the outside air to the turbo with the least amount of heating? As well as from the turbo to the intercooler and from the intercooler back to the intake? How to slow or reduce the heat transfer through the metal of the intake and exhaust side of the turbo? Would it be better to leave the intake between the turbo and intercooler uninsilated to let it cool off at that point? Maybe just heat shield it so it will cool faster because of less heat around it?

If the intercooler is going to work efficiently you have to have air flowing through it. So if you do lots of city driveing or low speed there isn't much air flow through the intercooler? Why not have electric fans to help with that problem?

I was wondering why some device using freon could not be made to "chill" the air as it's inside the intercooler. Then maybe it would be possible to have air going into the motor that's considerably colder than ambiant (at least in the summer).

maybe a water mister to spray water over the intercooler like the pikes peak racers and the Subaru WRX STI
that would help cool it down.
