Unhappy Common Rail won"t go

I have one of the first common rails got it in everything is wired up right checked 5 times it has 5000 + psi at the rail when cranking & can smell slight smoke when turning over but just won't fire
It had some sort of performance harness in it but no controller so I unplugged it from the main harness & put the factory plugs back in the appropriate places & unplugged the computer for 24 hours to clear any faults my code reader hasn't arrived from the states yet so I can't read any codes anybody got any ideas.

Just being trying things if I release the pressure in the fuel filter by opening the water drain then crank it will start and run for a few seconds then stop is there a overpressure switch on the filter housing

You can read codes. Just turn the key on and off three times and leave it in the on position. You can read codes if you have any in the mileage window. Post them back on here and someone can help.

So is it a Cummins in a Ford????

What make of truck... Ford, Dodge, etc.
What make of engine.... I assume a 5.9 CTD as stated.
Did you swap this motor in place of another?
Where do you live? Country???? USA, England, Canada, etc.

Just trying to help......

There is an overpressure sensor on the rail. If it pops you have to replace it. High pressure valve.

Engine is a 250Hp 2003 5.9 common rail I imported it from Canada fan to fly wheel Auto with a under hood loom and engine loom & computer It was in a 3500 ram so they say.
I removed a EFI 351 on LPG/petrol
It's a 1990 Ford F150 4X4 manual 5spd
I'm in Australia

So what you are saying is if the rail pressure sender that is beside the pressure relief valve register's over pressure it's stuffed & has to be replaced?

what I have found out is it starts and then stops after 2 seconds with out turning ignition off you crank it again wont fire BUT if you turn the ignition all the way of then back on it will fire and run for the 2 seconds again and so on.

Could it be an immobilizer maybe:conf used:

Any chance the engine came from a truck that was equipped with a SENTRY key system ?

Go over to this thread and see if they can help you..... This guy just put a 5.9 in a Ford Excursion. Just understood what you were trying to do and why you needed a code reader... Hope I pointed you in the right direction.

I have no idea about the SENTRY key system
Can you fool the engine computer by sending it a signal
