Seems like mine goes from normal idle (when cold) straight to choppy. Once in a while I think it stays at about 1000 RPMs before it goes to choppy, but not for very long.

Mine is pretty predictable when it's cold out about coming up on fast idle by itself, but it's only done the lopey idle thing a half dozen times, maybe a couple more, and one of them was a week or 2 ago. I've owned the truck since brand new, over 8 years now. When she's doing the lope thing, as soon as I tap the brake and comes back down to normal idle it goes away. Never have seen a rhyme or reason why it lopes sometimes and not others tho.
