The instant 1000 idle has ALWAYS occured when the temp. has been in the single digits and the truck was unplugged the night before. I try to plug in all the time, but Mother In-Laws just don't understand, plus she was trying to figure out how much juice it was going to draw.... you understand! The 2 minute hi idle always works perfectly.

Tell her that when you start in up in the moring and let it warm up while still plugged in that it generates all the juice that it used back into the house, LOL.

Scratch that, tell her it puts back more then it uses then you can chage her for the juice you are making

My truck has done both. Instant high idle and high idle after 2-3 minutes with a cold start. It has never been plugged in. Coldest start has been 2F.

With all the variations in time I am seeing in this thread, there seems to be no common denominator for the fast idle coming on.

Could it be minor programing changes made at the factory by Cummins or DC over a time period that your vehicles own prefference for a fast idle ramp up would be determined by the build date ?

Could it be like I've already stated in that other sensors are involved? I think that is the most likely scenario. I doubt they have several variations of the logic that controls it.

I figured it OUT!!!!
Sunday -2 below, put my foot on the brake pedal, no 1000 instant RPM, ramped up after 2 minutes.
I have disconnected my clutch switch, so therefor if the brake isn't depressed the ECU must look at the senors and say 1000RPM NOW! Hope this helps.

Sorry you loose, I never have my brake on when starting it, some times 1000 rpm right away, some times not.
