clutch pedal safety switch

Does anyone know how to disable the safety feature that will allow you to start the truck without engaging the clutch pedal?
Thanks for your help.

Why would you want to do that? Just curious, not trying to argue.

I' had one vehicle years ago that had a bad switch. It was under the dash on the clutch pedal. I just shorted the wires together. Only problem was if you hit the key and it was in gear, good way to run over something or someone.

I'm guessing, but I bet he wants to set up a remote starter. Been thinking about that myself...-Steve

just put one of them cheap scotch locks on the wire and jumper them together. i spliced into mine when wiring in a switch to prevent starting....

funny though. the switch isn't avalable separately from mopar. it is sold only with the clutch master cylinder assembly, but it is removeable...

If you have EVER seen a Dodge diesel start in gear and idle through several tool boxes and work benches you would think twice about bypassing that system.Luckily we had no one hurt or killed.

There should be two wires going into the switch. A Yellow/Dark Blue and a Black. The Black wire goes to ground. When the clutch is depressed there should be continuity between the two wires. In order to bypass the switch, you need to jumper those two wires like Nick says.

That switch also kicks off the cruise control when you depress the clutch with the cruise control active. Prevents engine overspeed.

Forgot to mention that your cruise control will probably not work if you jumper those wires. In the unlikely event that the cruise control does work (clutch sense switch is momentary for cruise deactivation) then you will lose the engine overspeed protection.

handymantim.......If I wanted to use the clutch switch to install a hidden kill switch, could I just snip the yellow/dark blue wire, and run the ends to a SPST switch hidden somewhere? Is it really that simple? Would this affect my cruise control?

Thanks....Steve

Yes that will work. If you cut the YL/DB wire and run the two ends to a SPST switch then the truck will not start if the kill switch is open. The cruise control will still work but if the switch is left open then the engine overspeed protection will be disabled.

By the way, the YL/DB wire color is from the 2004 shop manual. Can't vouch for the other years. However the switch is inside the cab and attached to the rod going through the firewall from the clutch. It's going to be the only switch/wires attached to the clutch mechanism inside the cab. If you are using these wires for a kill switch then you could use either the colored wire going in or the black wire going out to ground.

Thanks for the info....Living in the "Stolen Truck Capital of the USA" has me nervous about my baby. I will be sooooo glad when this contract is over and we can get out of here (if we still have a truck to pull the fiver with )

engine overspeed protection will be disabled
that is not true. i have a clutch start kill switch i installed on my truck. just for kicks, i decided to try going in cruse control with that switch having the circuit open, and pushed the clutch in while driving under cruse control at about 1800rpm. the rpm flared up about 100-150rpm and then went to idle...

so with an open circuit the CC will work, but with a closed jumpered circuit, the CC will not work right..
