Clutch engaged strange today

I was out and about today, and for some reason, this only happend once, i was approching a left hand turn across oncoming lane and i went to push the clutch pedal in when i was close to a stop and when i pushed it in, it pushed hard, alot harder then normal. I didnt think to much of it untill i went to let the clutch out to turn after traffic had cleard and i stalled the truck in the middle of the road because the clutched engaged so quick that i was not ready for it and was totaly uncharacteristic of the truck. What would cause the clutch to act in this way. It was totaly random and unexpected. Any help would be great, thanks.

Your clutch mastercylinder is probably on its way out. I dont know much about the G56 trans but I am on my 3rd in my truck. I just carry a spare under the rear seat. It only takes about 20 minutes to change on the NV5600 but couldnt be that much different on yours. Check for leaks around the slave cylinder on the transmission (there are some joints in the line that are prone to leaking) and under the dash where the push rod from the mastercylinder comes through the fire wall.

Thanks for the insight, i will take a look under the truck today. Truck only has 35k miles on it and it almost up on warranty and i want to catch it before 3/36K warranty runs out. I might run it down to the dealership on Monday and tell them what happen and have them make a note of when it happen and mies on the truck, this way if it does end up being bad, its documented.

You didn't happen to romp on it just before it happened?

If the clutch had gotten very hot from slipping, the disk can stick to the flywheel and pressure plate, so hard to push pedal- plus could be grabby for a bit...

I think betbduncan is probably right. Just another thought...

I agree with Jeff, when my old clutch slipped the pedal felt a little weird for a while.
I'm not sure if you can change just the master on the G56, I think it's a sealed unit all the way down to the slave.

I think if a person was on his 3rd master he should consider trying one from SB.

I did step on it a bit, but nothing crazy, just trying to get moving in traffic. I am very disapointed if the amount that i stepped on it cause the clutch to slip, very week in my opion, but i guess there is that posibility, thanks for the insight

Yes the master cylinder is part of a complete unit (Master Cylinder, Slave Cylinder, line and pre-bled) I said master cylinder to keep it short. As far as being on the 3rd unit, as I said in my previous post I changed out everything, I dont want to be under this thing again. If you look at South Bends set up and Valairs set up closely, it looks to me to be Chryslers updated version with Chryslers Pentastar and part #s IMO. Also I get Dodge parts thru my local Goodyear store for their cost (45% off list so I cant complain) I have good friends there. Good luck, it could have stuck momentarily from a hard run also

With my stock clutch the most problems I had with slipping was on the highway in 6th gear, I just gave it a bit to avoid hitting a guy who was merging.
The higher the gear, the harder for the clutch to hold all that torque.

Thanks for all the help. Truck is going in on Wed to have my southbed DD and upgraded hydros put in. I was hoping to hold out till better weather to do this, but it acting up the way it did was enough for me to do it right away. I am very particular with my truck and i like everything to function right and if i dont have the new clutch put in, it will eat away at me untill i have it put in. Thanks again
