Clicking Noise?

My truck recently devoloped a clicking noise that seems to be speed sensitive. Usually happens on decel about 40mph and under. Doesn't seem to be the injector tick (I've had that too) because when it makes the noise I can throw it in nuetral and change the rpms without changing the noise rate. It almost sounds like a rock in the tire type noise. I'm thinking maybe bad u-joints or a bearing. I've checked for play in the u-joints but they seem tight unless I'm checking them wrong. I don't get any virbration when travelling at speed either. Tapping the brakes doesn't change anything either so I don't think it's brakes related. One thing that does seem to help is if I put it in 4x4. I hope it's not the transfer case. I've got 40k on the clock and I'm leaving for a 2 week trip in less than a month with my 5000lb. camper on the back. Trying to avoid spending my vacation in the dealerships waiting rooms. Please, any help would be greatly appreciated.

My 06 has a little clicking noise that was driving me crazy too. couldnt figure it out until I needed 4WD and noticed my shifter on the floor that puts it into 4WD was actually making the clicking noise! There was nothing wrong with it......it just was vibrating around a bit.....Try just putting your hand on it while its in 2Wd and see if the click goes away....might not be it, but thats where my click was coming from. Maybe you dont even have that setup......

Clicking Noise

So I've had that same problem 2x's in the driver side, and now it's showing up on the passenger side.

The sound is almost like a rattle that is tied to the rotation of the wheels. I only hear it when I I'm coasting as the engine noise drowns it out. Must have the radio off as well. Had it fixed on the drivers side 2x's at the dealer while it was still under warranty. Once it was a bad U joint and then it was something else and I cannot find the receipt that explains what was done. I may call the dealer tomorrow and see if they keep records.

I had the same problem. Thought it was a rock in my left front tire. Turned
out to be the front left axle u-joint. Fixed under warranty at 67K miles as a drive train repair. Even using a stethascope I couln't pinpoint the problem to the u-joint.

I am having the same problem now. I took the lug cover off last night because it sounded like a lug nut fell off and was rattling around in there. This has been bothering me for a while now, but I just chalked it up to a rock in the tire, because it was not that bad of a noise. Now It does it all the time at all speeds. More noticable like you all say at coast because the engine noise kinda drowns it out. Climbed under the truck today for about the thousandth time and shook the one thing I have not touched all this time. The front left axle shaft u-joint. It moves, not much but it moves, and the right side doesn't. So guess what I get to do. I have 85k on the truck so I guess I will have to buy this one. I am going to try the dealer and see if they will do it first though.

Wish me luck.

Another vote for front axle u-joint-I bought my truck last year used and soon thereafter started to get the same ticking noise, took the truck in and the mechanic said that the u-joint fell into pieces when he took it off.
