Re:Check those alternator brackets boys!

mine too was cracked. Took about 5 seconds to find it. Dealer had 3 different people look at it and told me it wasn't cracked. Drove to dealer, got flashlight and showed all 3. Oooohhh they said, those cracks. Short story is now I have to take the truck back again as they had to order the bracket. Went by 2 days before the appointment to ask them to order the bracket. Now there will be 3 trips involved getting 1 bracket. Delaer is pretty good generally but I do have to lead them by the nose a bit.

Gotta do what I did. Just ordered the parts, made an appt with service, brought truck in and told them to install SOP (special order parts) White coat looked at me kinda wierd but they put them on no charge and I was out 1 ten minute fone call and an hour at the dealer.

Re:Check those alternator brackets boys!

Wierd.....I stopped by my dealer after seeing all of this.....they ran my build date...which is AFTER the one that is stated in the Service Bulletin...but my S/N #57013250 is BEFORE the one stated in the first post of this thread ???

And they thought I was smoking something >

I have no Alternator squeal as directed in the bulletin so I guess Ill wait until the bracket self destructs and then get REALLY MAD or else take it too the other Dodge dealer in the area and have them look at it

Re:Check those alternator brackets boys!

My dealer has the parts on order but they haven't all come in yet. It's going on two weeks now. I ended up getting the cracked one welded so it wouldn't fail completely out on the road. I also rounded the sharp edges to reduce the stress concentrations. 1500 miles so far with no sign of any new cracks.

Just got back from my dealer. One week to the day from my phone call. Part in and on truck. Took about 20 minutes to install. Looks much more secure.

Get mine put on tomarrow. They must have miss understood me when I ordered the parts on the phone. They showed up here to deliver all the parts in a box for me not that I would mind doing it, but it is do for an oil change any way. They are just too use to me ordering parts and they just drop them off when they come in.

Re:Check those alternator brackets boys!

Dealers here wont take phone orders without credit card number. Once it gets on your credit card it is a hassle to get a credit. Just easier for them to order the parts themselves and stop by when it is to my convenience after parts are in.

Watchin the cracks, two, both less than 1/2". They are not growing at present. If they start to grow, then bracket will be replaced.

Re:Check those alternator brackets boys!

I received a notice in the mail yesterday that the parts were in. I called today to schedule a Saturday appointment. My dealer informed me that all they do on Saturday is oil changes. The Saturday service department was one of the things that my dealer was so proud of when they were trying to land my deal and it was also important to me. I can't afford to miss work to have service done which always takes much longer than what they say it will.. My dealer is 165 miles away and I had them order the parts rather than locally because I have a paint problem that can't be taken care of locally. I just thought that I would kill two birds with one stone. I asked if they would just ship me the parts and I would install them myself and send them the other parts back. Their answer was a simple no. It looks like I will just have to get the parts ordered at a local dealer and hope the alternator doesn't fall off in the mean time. >

Re:Check those alternator brackets boys!

Got mine installed today. I actually ended up buying the parts and installing it myself because my dealer wanted the truck for the whole day (busy busy I guess). But they gave me a good deal on the parts. My welded bracket seemed to be holding up just fine, though. No new cracks in it.

Badunit,
What did you pay for the parts? I had to do the same thing with two leaky cab marker lights. It was much more cost effective than missing work.

Paid $62. Retail was quite a bit higher. Wasn't cheap but at least they didn't charge me full price. And it was much better than missing work, I couldn't find a day where I was free to take it to the shop.

Re:Check those alternator brackets boys!

Anyone seen a new truck on the lot with the new bracket? I looked at 5 new trucks this week at the dealer with a friend who was thinking of buying, not a single one with the new bracket, although the build dates were after what was listed on the TSB. Is cummins still putting on the old bracket?

I got mine from the dealer and installed it myself, they supplied it no charge, took about 10 minutes.

CTDCAL
