Re:Check those alternator brackets boys!

Hmmm...My bracket appears to be a cast iron bracket...you fellers seem to be describing a formed bracket (bent). This is confirmed by the picture too. I see no cracks, my serial # is 57018***..... ??? For those who have got the new bracket...is it a cast iron brackt or a formed steel one ?

Re:Check those alternator brackets boys!

DC went to a cast bracket during February production. Your bracket is fine if it is cast.

Casey

Checked mine.

Serial # is 56976202, no visible cracks. But I printed a copy of the TSB, and next time I go in I'll talk to the service guy.

EggBlindBob,

Sounds like your white Ghost and My Lt Almond are the only two so far that are gettin so much TLC the even our alternator bracket are dusted and "spit shined" so frequently they glisten to where theme hairline cracks are difficult to reckon even with tri-focals. Guess the rest of em let all that diesel crud, rust and oil on their brackets kinda highlights their cracked brackets. Maybe we should stop takin such tender under hood care of our babies.

LoveMyRamPhil

P.S. Does wearin tri-focals on forehead count?

My Vin is 57032256 (I think) built in early April. It has the new bracket from the factory.

Re:Check those alternator brackets boys!

Sierra,

I had the service manager call the other day and ask if I could bring my truck by for a prospective customer to see. He will need about ten trucks and they wanted him to see mine. I guess he will be setting a couple up like mine with the fiver hitch and extra tank. Manager said I knew yours would look better than when we gave it to you. They raise the hood and all gather around and grin. Luckily I had just detailed the engine compartment about three days before - - it had some dust in there. :'( :'( Just love keeping it that way. Fun. 8) Love my truck. They guy liked it too - - ordered two for now and more to come. They were fascinated with my Jordan brake controller - - they are over the road guys and loved the idea of direct control of the trailer brake.

Spots - - yes, the switch came with the brake. I have a pic loaded in my album of the installation - - I think it was page 10 or so the last time I looked.

For you that did not see these cracks and have the earlier trucks, I really had to scratch the bracket a little to see the crack - - they are that fine.

Smilin'Bob

Mine's cracked about 3/4" on the front bend and 1-1/2" on the back bend, heading toward th bottom of the bracket. I can flex the bracket by hand and get the long crack to open up (I took it off to look at it). Time for a new one.

Re:Check those alternator brackets boys!

Well, I've got what appears to be the most hairline of all hairline cracks in mine, so I guess it needs a new one. Quick question though; did anyone experience any symptoms, or did you all just read the TSB and then look? I ask because I have been trying to track down a buzzing noise from the alternator area on mine for a couple of months now... It only happens at a certain RPM and when the engine is fully warmed up, both of which would make sense for a hairline crack in a bracket (RPM = harmonic vibration, temp expands the material). Please let me know if anyone had any symptoms or a buzzing.

Only symptom the TSB lists is a belt squeal.
