Was driving into work the other night and as I am coasting down the road, I heard the dreaded chime. I look down to see my check engine light was illuminated. Drove the final 1/4 mile into the office and began to investigate.

The code that was popped was a P1740 TCC Overdrive Solenoid Performance:

Have any of you all ever had this code tripped, what am I looking at problem possibility wise? Is the torque converter failing, could it be a bum solenoid, The transmission was not and has not slipped. The only hauling this truck does is of my boat, (4500 lbs) and it has been serviced 100% by the dealer since the day it rolled off the lot (service contract). I live in a pretty mountainous area with a windy mtn road in and out of my neighborhood. And lastly the truck has approximately 51000 freeway miles. Any help or insight on where to begin would be great.

When this code appeared on my old 2001 2500, the dealer pulled the trans out and repaired $1700 worth of parts.......thankfully, it was still covered under warranty

 

Huh, did they tell you what it was, I am out of warranty being at 51,000, and 1700 in parts is not good.

I get that one , the frist time i had it i took the truck to suncoast here in fort walton,, thay had just did the VB on it , they did look at the trans , but did not find anything wrong and still just after being in it the week before they knew the trans was in good shape.. so thay cleared the code, and told me to keep a eye out on how i was driving it when and if it comes back,, what they had told me , was that in 2006 there was something in the computer program (cant realy rember what he said it was) but it looks for a rpm lost when going in to lock up.. if it is not what the computer thinks it should be then it will set the code, i just wanted you to know what i know about it ,
