Check Engine Light when cold

06 3500 SLT Megacab CTD with 3500 miles auto.
The issue is I have the check engine light on for the 2nd time now when I start it when its been pretty cold out first thing in the morning. I had the dealer check it 3 weeks ago during the 1st oil change and they confirmed the error was coming from the sensor that sits on the airbox. Tested the sensor and all is good so didn't do anything. The light stayed on all the way to work and then of course the next time I started it to take it for the oil change the light went out but it was warmer outside by this time.
I start it up this morning again (3 weeks later) and same thing. I came across TSB 18-005-06 Rev B. Does my issue sound like what this TSB addresses? The build date says 9/28/2005 on the sticker on the valve cover. I was wondering if any other 06 CTD owner has had a similar issue and if they applied the TSB to fix it. I go into the dealership tomorrow and am afraid they will push to just replace the sensor as it seems like they don't want to do the ECM stuff talking to them on the phone today.

at extreme temps there are usually 2 codes that pop up. battery temp sensor, and ambient temp rationale(or something worded close). they are only an irritant, nothing to think about. they will go out on their own. if you know how to check for codes, and do so, finding only those 2. dont worry about them.
do you know the key on/off 3 times back to on to check for codes on the odometer? get the code number(starts with a p, example p0191) and search here, a list is available on this site.

I had seen something about that but not tried it yet. I think I will go out and try it and see what it says. At least I will have the info then.

Thanks Chris!

Mine used to do the same thing when I had it plugged in on a timer. The timer was set to come on 4 hours in advance. As soon as I got rid of the timer and left the thing plugged in all night long.. I never had the check engine light come on again. I don't know if it wasn't getting warm enough with only 4 hours or what. But it seemed to cure my check engine light issue.

My 06 was built in 12-05. I had to get the flash. I had to tell the tech the Tsb # , they reflashed it about 2 or three weeks ago . No more problems.

If your plugging it in and get the bat. temp. code you need to have your bat temp sensor repositioned...oh I can't get mine to do the key thing.....

Thanks guys! I have been reading quite heavily behind the scenes here and man have I learned ALOT!
I dropped it off at the dealer this morning with the TSB printed out in hand. Talked to the Service guy and he pulled it up with my VIN for build date reference and says it does seem to apply. They should program it now and be an end to the CEL. This is all because of what I have learned here. They are also fixing my rear seat latch and enabling the high idle feature.

Thanks for all the great info on DTR!
