My '06 is 6 months old and has 8,000 miles on it. Last weekend I started the truck and the Check Engine Light stayed on. I drove the truck and everything seemed fine. When I got home I checked for codes using the key on/off method. The odometer went into the display codes mode then flashed done. No codes at all. I took the truck to my friend and we plugged in his snap on Modis scanner. Still no codes. On the way home the CEL went out.

Everything was good for 2 days. Then last night I started it and the CEL stayed on again. Again, no codes. It has been very cold here in MD, around 20 degrees. I do wait for the heater grid light to go out before I start it. Both times the CEL stayed on the block heater was not plugged in.

Any ideas? This is my first Dodge Diesel and I love it. I hope this is not a sign of things to come.

I know the truck is under warranty but if I bring it in with no codes I'm doubt the dealer is going to tell me anything I don't already know.

 

I had the same thing. Started truck one morning and CEL light on. Dodge looked at it and could not get codes. They checked everything, looked OK. I disconnected the batterys and CEL has not come on since then...

This morning when I started the truck the heater did NOT cycle, I just assumed it was a warm night and cranked her up. After that the check engine light stayed on. I shut it down, turned it on and this time the heater came on. I waited and started it and the check light is still on.
I called and made an appointment for Tuesday, want to have the high idle and accessory delay programmed at the same time.

My question is, what do I do to get these codes you spoke of?

 

I've been told to cycle the key on, off, on, off, on and the DTC will display in the odometer readout. Mine goes into diagnostic mode but there are no codes. Let me know what the dealer tells you.

 

Well this is weird, the light was on this moring, stopped on the way and it was still on when I got to work.

After work, started it up, light went out, can only wonder what will happen tomorrow...?

 

Yeah, I know the feeling. Don't want to waste my time going to the dealer for nothing. I'm sure the light would be out by the time I get there.

 

My friend has an 04, he says that light will come on if the fuel cap is looseż

Not sure if that's true, but worth checking..?
