Check engin light?
CEL came on after sitting in garage for 2 days with 44K on clock. Dealer wanted $98 to pull code and $144 if it was a major diagnostic check. I bought a new Fleetguard oil and air filter, $35, and installed at home and the light went away.
Is there any way to pull codes without going to the dealer? Cummins said they could no do it on a 2006. I tried the key on,off,on,off,on,off thing and got nothing. Maby I wasn't doing it correctly. Any Ideas?

I'm sure he's beyond the 36k warranty. He got his 8 months before me and I have 30,100 on mine and other than a few trips 200 miles each way and one 400 each way, I only use mine for commuting 23 miles each way.

For that price get a hand reader from AutoZone or O'Rileys. It is Actron OBD II AutoScanner CP91345 somewhere around $80. I have a hard time doing the key on-off thing.......I know it's operator error . Just plug it in and it gives me the code and what the code means and I can clear the code if I want. It's normally the temperature codes 0071 and the 0514 battery and inlet temperature. They come up for me in Spring and fall when temperatures swing wild and truck is in insulated garage.

I think the key trick will work. turn to on but dont start then turn back one click (not all the way like you do to pull the key out) then back to on, then back one to off then back to on and leave on watch odometer window should list p*** codes then done
