Cheap / free tricks for horsepower / smoke???

I did a little research and couldn't come up with anything.... basically, I am wondering if there are any cheap tricks to get a little extra hp, smoke, and / or better acceleration? Of course, tricks that wont do any harm to the motor / truck....

Mostly just curious... I remember the first performance thing I did on my 98 12v was slide the fuel plate forward and adjusted the star wheel.. made a huge difference and thats what got me hooked on diesel performance..

Any interesting tricks? My truck is a 2007 Ram 3500 with 5.9 HO Cummins... 4spd auto

Thanks

Sam

Boost fooler maybe. Totally different fuel system from a 12v; nothing's cheap.

Wrap 2/3 of your airfilter with Saran Wrap, lots of smoke, and pretty cheap. Just don't use an imitation brand.

There's not much you could do on a 3rd gen that's cheap... Since the fuel system is completely electronically controlled, you can't just turn it up like you could on a 1st gen.

The crank sensor mod basically moves the crank sensor slightly so that it advances the timing.

You can do a search for Tone Ring Mod, but basically its filing the dowl pin hole so that you can rotate the tone ring to the extreme of the bolt holes.

Smoke is not always an indication of power, not like you're thinking with your 98.

You can put a cold air intake in it for about $15. You can also take the muffler off. That and the tone ring are about it, but they'll get you more responsiveness and effeciency. It's noticable.
