Cheap Block Heater Cord Solution (From your home!)

After some serious googling I was able to locate a site to buy the much maligned block heater cord online. Dealer wanted $39.95+tax for it, and Cummins shop isn't anywhere handy right near me and don't stock it in the dealers I called. It was $8.09 plus shipping. I ordered it and received it within 3 days and it was well shipped and in perfect condition upon receipt. Here is the link, hope this helps you guys that don't want to look too hard locally out and isn't old news.

The web site doesn't appear to use a secure server for the entry of credit card info. I wouldn't use the site for that reason alone.

I think it would be neat to incorporate a small retractable cord reel mounted into the bumper with 25 to 30 feet of cord.. Sounds lazy to some but I think it would be nice to pull up to my house, open a little access panel or reach under the bumper and pull a plug out and run it to the outlet. Then when I go to leave, unplug and it will rewind back into the bumper. That way it is always with me and I don't have to store an extension cord under the rear seat. I just think things like this go a long way in making me love the truck that much more.

A hundred bucks... man, I'm happy with just routing the extension cord under the deck and lay it right there for when I get home.

For the 10 times a year I actually use mine I think I'll just stick with my current system of dragging the ole' extension chord out when I need it.

That is pretty neat. Even though I rarely plug mine in locally, but needing it when I'm in New Mexico or Colorado and it's zero outside sure makes it nice to have it when I need it, and forgetting to bring my cord. Cool idea...

Just wondering, does that plug into the heating element, or just to the cord coming off of the element? The reason I'm asking is b/c the idiots at the dealership where I had my truck worked on didn't put my cord back on when they put my new motor in, and now they're "supposedly" ordering one for me. I don't need it too many times a year, but I like to take care of my stuff and if it's easier on it starting on some cold mornings, that's what I like to try to do.
