I replaced my rear diff cover with a PML cover and changed my lube to Royal Purple 75/90 synthetic. Oil was changed afgter 20k, the used oil looked new, but smelled nasty.

I pull a combination of a 12k lb 5th wheel, car trailers, and a 5k lb boat. I now have 58k on my rig, and has yet to be in the dealer for anything but oil changes and tire rotation.

Also, just recently changed over to Amsoil HD marine diesel oil in the motor.

If you do your own diff service make sure that if you have a limited slip diff to use the mopar additive!!!!!! Just my two cents.

I was going to go with redline 75w140 in the rear and 75w90 in the front. I was under the impression that an additive was not needed?

actually if you do a search on rear diffs, you'll find that they do not require any additives. The diffs do not contain clutch packs like some older axles. Using a good synetic oil is all you need.

Correct, the axles used on the third gens do not require additive. The older Dana axles did.

I have the 03 service book open in my lap right now...

"Trac-Rite differentials DO NOT require Limited Slip Additive".

LSD stand for Limited Slip Differential, some people call them posi's.....Don't know what a trac-rite is.....But hey who cares?!?!?!? Its your truck not mine. Just trying to help. I had differential problems with the 03 Hemi when I had it and it was dealership serviced every 15000miles like the book said and it had the mopar differential additive put in it each time like the service department said it needed. who am I.....just trying to help out fellow dodge owners.

theextricator,

I see now, the problem is you are talking about a 1500 Hemi Ram. Note that this site is generally about DIESEL Rams.

The 2003 DIESEL Rams use the 9.25 / 10.5 / 11.5 AA Axles for both the front and rear and these are ALL "Trac-Rite" diffs for the limited slip, and these diffs require NO ADDITIVE, just synthetic lube.

The C205F axle on your 1500 uses the "Trak-Lok" diff and DOES require an additive.

OK...I stand corrected.....I assumed they used the same LSD. I only have 3200miles on my 05 CTD so I haven't done my rear yet. I know that this rear is much bigger than the one that was in my 03Hemi that I had.

"Trac-Rite" is the trade mark for AAM's limited slip system... and 03 and up Cummins powered trucks have the AAMs...

theextricator is correct, the Dodge service book does say "Trac-Lok (R) differentials require Limited Slip Additive in the lubricant"...

Sorry, I should have been more specific in my earlier post...

I have 315's on my truck and a 315 mounted in the spare tire location. Does anyone know if the pml or other diff cover with drain fit without rubbing on 315's?
