cabin air filter
I know this is an old issue, but I saw a thread the other day about a guy who found a way to install a cabin air filter, in the ducting behind the glovebox. I thought he said the cutout was allready there and waiting. I've tried looking for the thread but cannot find it. Anyone else? Thanks.

i assume you already saw the filter that sits all the way across the intake grill at winsheild on the outside of the truck. I really didnt look at it because it looked like a bad idea. i took off three screws that hold blower motor in place and figured you could put something there in air path into truck. Do not take out screen at top of air path where it enters truck it does a fine job of keeping out big stuff

Don't know if this has been posted here or not, but all the air goes thru the A/C evaporator after the fan, dust and dirt, combined with mosture from the A/C makes a mud blockage, heard on another board that the heater box HAS a place for a Cabin Air Filter, but it's not cut out, Drop your glove box and it's right there, cabin air filter #5058693AA and a lid #68052292,they fit 2010 compass, avenger, caliber ect, I got them and sure enough it was a 15 min improvment that will ssave me from haveing to pull the dash to remove the box. Forums are a great wealth of info!!!
The thread is in 4th gen 2010 2500 3500 hd discussion , not sure how to do a link.

Cabin air
I'm a little confused too, do you remove the fan? I did not see a place showing a cutout behind the glove box, do you dissasemble some of the ductwork? Also the filter and lid part #s, are these Dodge part #s, or after market? Thanks for the help, Jim.

I had the exterior filters on a FREIGHTLINER, an immediate improvement.
If the above mod won't work on 3rd gen, then I'd recommend the exterior type as better -- far, far better -- than nothing.

cabin air filter
I just installed a new evaporator and heater core on the full dash out process, so I purchased a cabin air filter to alleviate to dirt and road tar issues. It was manufactured by CAB fresh air filter company. I'm disappointed in the overall quality and fit of the plastic over the existing cowl vents. The hood won't latch even though I took a lot of time to fit it up as correct as possible. I may try some heat to reform the plastic overlay to get the hood to latch, but for that money, one should expect perfect product delivery.
I would suggest taking the existing cowl vent cover off the truck and figure out how to make your own under the cowl with filter from the local Home Depot HVAC isle.
