A/C Died... puzzled-
I originally had a clogged orifice tube that made my A/C not work and after replacing the entire line it has been blowing ice cold for a several months now.
Today I was at WOT on an on-ramp when I got up to speed (about 90 then backed off to the speed limit) before merging on the interstate... Smarty on SW5. I had my A/C on at the time and when I got to cruising speed it just died.
I am not sure what happened. I checked fuses, turned off the A/C for a while to see if maybe some find of a pressure switch engaged (not sure if it even has one), checked to make sure it is cycling on/off, also checked to make sure it is blowing out each vent when it's supposed to which I believe then is not a blend door issue... not sure what is next other than a leak check.
I don't think I remember anyone ever telling me to turn the A/C off before punching it... didn't have that much power to it anyway.
Has anyone had this same issue before? I hope my compressor isn't toast... so far no noise like it could be bad. I am not an expert on A/C stuff at all (I'm sure you can tell) but I am grateful for any advice you can lend-
-As always thanks

Does the compressor cycle at all? Does the compressor even come on at all? Could be something as simple as a bad switch. If the compressor is toast they're not hard at all to replace...had to replace mine. I got a brand new one from O'Reilly's for like $240. Is your a/c fan blowing? Do you have any cold air at all? Just trying help pinpoint a starting location. Let us know.

Switch
Hey thanks for the response-
It's blowing but not cold and the compressor is cycling. How can you tell if a switch is bad? That could be promising. Glad to know the compressor isn't too expensive if that's what it is. Thanks again-

Is your dryer sweating? How bout the cold line next to it...it's not frozen is it. If it is it's low on 134. Not sure on the switch, I was just throwing that one out there as a possibility. If you have good airflow out of the vents and the compressor is cycling I would be leaning towards a low charge.

No sweating and lines are warm... will try to charge it this evening. For the life of me I don't get how a hard acceleration could do it but that's probably why I'm not a mechanic- lol
Thanks again... I appreciate the help-

Sounds like you have a leak. Put some gauges on it and see what the low and high pressures are. If they are low, pull a vaccum on the system after recovering the refrigerant. After pulling the vaccum, close the system and see if it will hold. If not, you have a leak.
