Re:Burned Diesel Wreak at slow speed and idling in cab.

As I said and the TSB said - it's the Crankcase ventilation of oil vapors that is creating the smell. Overfilling the oil causes a ton more crankcase vapors/mist. Filling within the safe range probably will not entirely cure this problem, but will minimize it. Since there is no way to get the full 12 quarts out, I dont dump a full 12 quarts in. I had more like 11.something and it's about 3/4 of the way up the safe line. I have VERY little smell at a stop, almost none.

Am I a weirdo, because I kinda like the smell

Maybe by the time I get to Florida in January the smell will be gone!
I wonder if I could try the track at Daytona?

That will be fun. You can roll the cummins right on the beach sand there in daytona too. No such luck here in sarasota, but hey thats what atv's are for

Look for Hess stations, they have the best/highest cetane fuel here in FL.

Hess!.....Yes!

That's what I run here, and have had good luck with it. They show a little higher Cetane level than most, that's true.

Have it too in mine, and agree the clear coat is burning off of the exhasust manifold. Makes me wonder why in the world would they clear coat the entire engine? I would think that the paint would not be good on the seals either.

Worst part about it is that when I get into my truck in the morning it does not have that new car smell, only smell the burnt paint diesel exhaust smell.

That stinks. Mine smells like new car smell. I don't think it's a clear coat burning smell, I believe it's crankcase vapors. TexasTodd check your oil level...

Re:Burned Diesel Wreak at slow speed and idling in cab.

Hey all,

Wasn't there someone on this board who solved this problem? Had his wife sit in the truck with the windows up and sprayed deoderizers into the grill opening with the truck running to check the cowl seal or something? I cant find the thread. :'(

Re:Burned Diesel Wreak at slow speed and idling in cab.

It is exhaust not oil. Since it only comes in when the truck is set to outside are and not recirc. I doubt is is coming from anywhere else but the difference here and that should be where the intake is for fresh air is. I assume the only point is the black cowl just in front of the windshield.

Even if it is oil there still is a problem of sealing off these fumes from reaching the intake.
