brrrr, cold start this AM, revving @ 1KRPM ?
Hello,
It was cold in metro ATL this AM, 27degF.
Don't laugh, that's cold for here.
Anywho, I went to start my truck to heat it while I finish preparing for yet another work day, start up went okay, turn key to ON, wait for the air/fuel hearter symbol to disappear, then started right up as normal, no smoke, no problems.
Anywho, after I finished brushing teeth, etc, opened my house door, gee, that sounds loud.
Opened the truck door, and the tach was showing 1KRPM.
Hmm, that's never happened before, even on other cold days, though, not as cold as today.
Anywho, I took it out of park, and the RPMs immediately went to normal idle, 750RPMS.
So, I'm guessing this is normal ?
Shrug, it drove normally.

It was a cold start in hilton head island also. my truck seemed ok. but it did run a little high rpm's. so it just may b normal. my brother said his Bmw m3 did the same thing that my truck did. so it could be a little warm up stage

If it's cold enough, the truck will automatically kick the rpms up to 1K. It will drop back down as soon as you step on the brake. I bought my truck new, and I still have not figured out what triggers the rpm kickup when temps seem the same. One day it does it, next it doesn't.
I usually kick mine up manually, so I don't see it very much anyway.

I was wondering about the same thing. This morning it was 20* out and I hit the remote start to warm it up b4 I went out there. After about 2 minutes I heard the rpm's go up. When I went to leave and hit the brake it dropped back to 750. The other day when it was only 27*, the idle went up for about 5 minutes and the came back down to normal. I was getting worried that something was wrong.

Wait untill it starts and goes right to 1000 rpm.
I think it has to be below 20° to do it.
Sounds very crunchy.
Wish it would wait for oil pressure...
My 07 has not done it yet, but my 03 did a few times.
