A brand new subject. TaDa!!!!!
Air Filters are a problem from the stand point they are very expensive and seem to only last around 11 or 12K miles.
Today while working on my 03 I pulled the filter and the new filters have a 2ndary filter over the face of them. Early 03's didn't have it, later 03's did. And, all new mopar filters have this 2ndary filter. It's just a white cover over the paper filter.
Anyway, this truck has 10K miles on it. I pull the filter and the 2ndary is pretty dirty, primary is fairly clean. I removed the 2ndary and pitched it then vaccumed off the primary and put it back in. Hopefully I can get anothe 8 to 10K miles out of it. I'll whatch and see what happens.
Do I notice a big power increase? NOPE
Will my mileage go up? NOPE
Will I save $25 bucks for a few thousand more miles? Hope so.
Just food for thought.

I ran the AFE and after 5,000 miles I cleaned a ton of thick black goo out of my intake tube between the filter and the turbo, all that stuff had to have gotten right by the AFE filter and into my engine, DONT USE THEM IF YOU CARE FOR YOUR TRUCK!

When I touched the inside of my intake tube it was just like putting your fingers in the tailpipe! I drive in south east Michigan, so no dust to speak of, just normal roads and traffic. I'm trying not to think what my engine looks like inside from all this

This is a normal problem with cotton gauze type filters. They flow 4x more than the OEM paper, but a good amount of superfine dirt passes right on past the gauze.
The only way to get both mass 4x air flow and OEM, or better, filtering is to use an open cell foam filter & foam filter oil. Amsoil TS 189 or True Flow 30200 (made by Uni Filter) are two that I know of. I prefer the Amsoil & their super tacky foam filter oil. It is about 2x thicker than the True Flow. You can't find a better air filter.

It was red when I put it in, has the same dirty suit on it that the intake had inside, but more dirt got by the filter than trapped IN the filter! I think the "pro guard 7's are blue. hold either up to a light and then compare them to your factory filter... there IS no comparison, note the factory filter is also rated at a 0% restriction rate until it starts to get dirty, so contrary to AFE sales pitch's there couldnt be any increase in airflow until the factory filter has done its job and has gotten dirty, somthing the afe does NOT do (trap the dirt before it gets in your truck) the afe filters may help in many aplications, but not with the cummins when it already has 0% restriction! I feel really stupid for ever putting that thing in

I have 41k on the orginal filter (Early 03). The filter minder is at 60%. I don't push the engine to the limit, don't need to. I can't tell that there is any drop in power.
I won't change the filter until I have a drop in power or the filter minder hits 100%. Why waste the $$$ unless you want all the horses you can get.
